I don't know you but i would not feel comfortable living in those nice places knowing the majority of our people still make barely enough to eat
but maybe that's just the reflection of capitalism :manny:

You have no problem living relatively comfortably in America while 45 million Americans and counting are below the poverty line.

Make that trip breh, that's our home and there's no reason for us to be mistreated in this hell hole. Africa for the Africans

I need to stop bullshyting and take a trip to Africa. Smh, I been to damn near everyother place but not home yet. That Renaissance Monument is the most powerful statue I've seen.

It's quite ironic you guys are posting this statue as something positive. A lot of people in Dakar HATE it because (among other reasons):

- it totally changed the scenery of the coastline
- it was Wade's ego project that he built using public money (more than 15 million euros) in a developping countrythat is still struggling with poverty.
- Former President Wade still gets TODAY 35 % of the income generated by the statue (so if you're following, he used public money to create private income)
- His son Karim Wade (currently on trial for corruption) was on the board of Administrators
- The building was built, start to finish, by a...North Korean firm (meaning money went OUT of Senegal because of it)

Ousmane Sow was supposed to work on this project, but he left it alone when he saw what was going on.

Yo, that's dope as fukk. Smh @ me never having heard of this. :snoop:

I've been to the Ivory Coast. Outside of Abidjan, and to a much lesser extent, Yamoussoukro, the rest of that country was much like people think of Africa.

I want to go to Ghana, which I thought would be a good place cuz of the language, but now it's looking like I need to go to Senegal. :ohhh:

Word, Senegal moved up to my traveling itinerary. If not 2015, then absolutely 2016.

I think ultimately, it'll be one of those things that has will have A LOT of appeal to foreigners and will take a very long time to grow on the locals.

Though the project wasn't made through transparent means, it's still, in the end, a very good looking statue. I mean, its dope as fukk. We got brehs here, and many others online, thinking of visiting Senegal purely off of the Statue. That's impressive in of itself. And Senegal has a lot more to offer.

Plus, it can bring a lot of revenue to the country's tourism industry and maybe help fund some needed projects.

And I thought Wade getting 35% of the profits was being blocked by Macky Sall's administration. Or has that been overturned?

I read all that after googling it, but it's a dope statue, and I still want to visit.

Much better than the world's largest church (at the time at least) which I visited in the Ivory Coast which was amazingly expensive yet surround by some of the poorest people I had ever come across in my life.

Seems like a step in the right direction to me. :ehh:
