My half my family from ATL I used to be there every summer I know what it is. NYC is full of transplants as well but we never get that excuse. U can see in the difference in the DJ’s. One was dope. Played records from all over the country. And the other played records from one region/city, and was all over the fukkin place with transitions. Looked like a complete fukkin amateur.Atlanta is full of NY nikkas.
That era was looks>>>>>> talent too. SWV was fine as hell in 1992.i mean they had their time...xscape had a successful tour 3 years ago, but only so many times we (the women who grew up with them) gonna see them in concert.
but we're definitely in the era of looks >>> talent. neither group would be signed/pushed today
Son that was wack. In no other Versuz would some shyt like that have went down and been cool. That’s on the fukk ass DJ. Then SWV was supposed to close the shyt out and Xscape STILL came back with another song. SWV got done greasy. Not greasy enough to not enjoy the show. But greasy enough to see the bullshyt. Coko clearly wasn’t feelin that bullshyt.you being sensitive like they was booing swv or some shyt. the crowd only got rowdy on do you want to being cut off which i understand, you down to the legit classics of these groups, you gotta let it play, especially when tiny out there putting on a whole ass show vocally
Yeah en vogue is a little before. What you think of total

How was Xscape suppose to close things out? SWV started the 11th song.Son that was wack. In no other Versuz would some shyt like that have went down and been cool. That’s on the fukk ass DJ. Total got heat though that would be a great battletotal was most likely the main group they were thinking of when they said that.
they dont want that comparison. total not messin with them.
the game was already about looks before these groups got on.
SWV was hot, especially lelee.
xscape eventually found their look. they wouldve sold more records than they did, if they didnt look so rough out the gate,
JD putting out KK and working with TLC made him a name, I was introduced to him by those two and knew who TF he was and his clout in the industry by the time he debuted Xscape in 93 and Brat in 94
Total got heat though that would be a great battle
I don’t think SWV looked great, they weren’t ugly, but they weren’t exceptional. The 00’s started the real push of looks >> talent - Christina milian was signed to every hot label/producer group when it was clear no one gave AF about her, Cassie - same, tinashe, etcThat era was looks>>>>>> talent too. SWV was fine as hell in 1992.
Taj was a legit model. Coko looked great in videos and LeeLee always had appeal.
This is how Xscape looked in the early and mid-90s. That wasn't cutting it if we were honest about it. JD created great music for them and that meant a lot.
Literally, all of Xscape members outside of Tiny looks better now in 2021 than in 1992. They are grandmas now.
I made it clear I knew he was reppin ATL. it didn’t take but a segment on the box or mtv or perusing word up to learn that. I also saw it on all the so so def cd’s...and I’m sure he repped in verbally on tracks but it’s past midnight, I ain’t digging thru old jd tracksKnowing who he was =/= knowing he was from Atlanta.
Swv wasn’t supposed to close out, they went first in the second half so xscape had the last song, that’s why xscape kept saying it’s not over/they’re not closing it out.Son that was wack. Coko clearly wasn’t feelin that bullshyt.
That was my point. If you research it, you can't say they put a city on the map. Who really knew JD was from ATL at that point in time? He wasn't in the group. He was the producer. During that era of his career, there was nothing that directly tied JD to ATL. Even then, he wasn't even really known. This was his first really huge project. You didn't see JD in a Kriss Kross video and go "oh, that's JD".
Atlanta is full of NY nikkas.
One of the biggest disappointments in music is that the original members of EnVogue stopped making new music and broke up. Hard to name a group where all the members could sing lead and they were all dimes.
