The reason nikkas bring up Majin Vegeta so much is because nikka going through a mid-life crisis and looking back on how he's changed since his arrival on Earth with Nappa a decade ago. Dude finally realized that he has reduced from the universe's feared and merciless warriors to a mere family man once Goku showed up back on Earth from the dead. That's mind-blowing breh. Not sure if it was mentioned, but didn't King Kai say that since Goku was dead, his body could take more damage?

Jesus. Goku didn't even want to fight Vegeta. He was more worried about Buu (rightfully so) and again if needed could have went super saiya-jin 3 and be done with the guy.

How so when Vegeta couldn't even touch Buu and Goku was going pound for pound with that nikka. It was like they were too elite for him, and then this nikka Vegeta finallys admits he will never be on Goku's level.
Yet. Vegeta was taking more damage from Kid Buu compared to Goku nearly passing out reach ssj3 again.
Point blank... Goku always ended up a step ahead of him

at the end of the movie Goku admitted Vegeta finally surpassed him even in SSJ3 form
Then how the hell did Vegeta lose so quickly to Bills compared to Goku.
SSJ3 Goku put up a much better fight and stamina against Bills overall on King Kai's planet.
