I don't see the reason for the outrage. It seemed to be pretty straight forward to me.
It's worthwhile listening to what Van Jones said here, he said it a lot better:
The reality is that minorities need help from every angle, but ultimately black people need to help black people more. The fried food/chicken/seafood shop doesn't need to be there. If you have the money to create those types of restaurants, then build a salad bar instead, a juice bar, a more healthier food store - but we won't because we know that's not black people's 1st choice of food.
If you love grandma's soul food on Sunday's, change the narrative and make soup together for the whole family. Don't commercialise the whole "cookout" thing which is based on grilling meat.
Even on this site when you say you eating x type of food that's not black you get tagged with a "c00n" or "boogie" food, etc...
That's just food, we forgetting about the drink and the smoking side, but that's another story. I love food but I have so many different choices of food to not only go out and buy but cook. Get a vegan cook book and give it to your aunty and mum and let them get the blood pressure and heart disease down...
Edit* I changed my original post, wasn't constructive
