I thought the movie was pretty good but I never saw a trailer for it heading into it nor have I ever been really interested in Captain Marvel in general. Didn’t see that first Captain Marvel movie but I did enjoy Wandavision
Crazy how people try an claim Thor is an unknown when he is basically a 1 to 1 copy of the norse mythology. Like saying Zeus was an unknown before Wonder Woman came outPRE MCU, Black Panther, Ms. Marvel were complete unknowns. Thats a fact. Their cameos were in lesser known cartoons or one off episodes of popular cartoons like the XMen TAS.
Iron Man and Thor were somewhat knowns. IM had the Saturday Morning Cartoon that had a moderately successful toyline, video games like MvC as well as having a legendary comic run by David Micheline that resulted in his 90s defining Modular Armor look as well as War Machines creation (Rhodey is the most famous palette swap in Comics history). Thor only had proximity to the Avengers as a source of fame, otherwise he was a virtual unknown.
Cap had the MvC games, Spider Man and XMen TAS appearances, as well as the crap movie from the early 90s plus he has a very notable costume and name so he always has been in the cultural zeitgeist a lot more.
I think its important to draw on memories/experiences BEFORE comic movies popped off. After the success of X Men (and especially after the success of Iron Man1), super heroes entered the cultural consciousness to a more acceptable degree. People started to get more curious about comic books and started to do research and the studios started cranking out far more media so that the movies could have a softer landing.
cuz of JL cartoon, Superman and Batman TAS, and the Superfriends. As well as DC just having a way better 90s run of comics. Marvel was flopping in the 90s outside of Spider Man and XMenLooking back, before the MCU the Justice league as a whole was way more popular than the avengers
Doggie i dont know where u went to school but we never learned about Norse mythology in Elementary, Middle or High School. We only learned about the Greeks and Romans due to them being the forefathers to Western Civ. Now *I* knew about Norse gods because *I* was a huge comic and mythology nerd but I can guarantee you not one of my peers knew who Thor and Loki were pre MCU and I went to elementary school in 4 different states in 3 different regions of the country.Crazy how people try an claim Thor is an unknown when he is basically a 1 to 1 copy of the norse mythology. Anybody with a highschool education knows who Thor is. They may not know any comic storylines, but they will be pretty familiar with what to expect as far as powers and theme. ie: Hammer, Lightening, frost giants, trickster gods etc

not to mention theres a difference between folks knowing Thor, the thunder god, *exists* and a version of Thor SORTA similar to the one from myth exists in the Marvel Universe as a mainstay member of the Avengers, who sometimes is bound to the body of a cac medical workerComparing Thors popularity to Zeus before the MCU is wild
doesn't matter if they are not familiar with the marvel comics version. I'm just shocked that their are people in here who are familiar with Greek gods and yet trying to act like they at the same time never heard of the Norse gods. What schools teach about one but not the other?not to mention theres a difference between folks knowing Thor, the thunder god, *exists* and a version of Thor SORTA similar to the one from myth exists in the Marvel Universe as a mainstay member of the Avengers, who sometimes is bound to the body of a cac medical worker
DOG i just told you why. The schools i went to only tangentially talked about other mythologies but when into great detail about the greeks because the Greeks are the earliest big civilization whose accomplishments leads directly into many aspects of Western Civilization.doesn't matter if they are not familiar with the marvel comics version. Just simply not true in my experience. There are still Norse people today who name their kids Thorleif and Loki type names. Plus people have always had a fascination with Viking culture and movies set in those mythos. Beowulf and Grendel for example is a classic tale remade every generation. Multiple characters named after Thor is that story. thor is just as well known as herculesDOG i just told you why. Plus the myth of the greek gods and Hercules is the most enduring Pagan myth in the West. So much media has been made adapting Hercules, in particular the 90s Hercules live action show (which spun off Xena) and the Disney Movie.
