They're arrogant. They want to show the world that they can stay and kickbox with him, well... they cant.
Sure, he's strong AF so its hard to keep him down if you're not a great wrestler
Can you imagine if Alex made the transition to MMA sooner
I do Muay Thai and BJJ and have a black belt in Tang Soo Do and brown belt in TKD.
My school that I do BJJ (white belt) at is not an MMA school by any stretch of the imagination. Strictly BJJ. But I spar in my striking stance sometimes to throw those guys off. Folks who grapple exclusively are really SOL when someone stuffs their takedowns. You can see the 1000 yard stare. A simple hand on their hip when in close quarters negates a ton of their moves.
Contrary to popular opinion taking down somebody with a very solid striking base is not as easy as people think it is.
I'm not elite but blue and purple and brown belts have a rough time taking me down with my striking background. Once down on the ground, it's a different animal due to their experience.
Believe me they want to take him to the ground but he's learned enough takedown defense they're scared shytless to come in close, so they're in striking range. Plus keeping a dude like that down for long periods ain't easy. It'll gas them and tax their muscles. Especially at the weight.
He's no small dude. You're fukked.
