If the FF franchise saved Rocks career why hasn't it saved anyone else's?
The Rock had a built-in fan base from WWE. He's handsome, buff...no homo. He has that Will Smith vibe going for him, where he's a minority but, palatable to white audiences. Objectively, he had everything that would make for a movie career but, he struggled.
In the 2000s, people didn't take him serious as an actor. In the 2000s, major studios weren't risking their big budget movies with him as the starring actor. In the 2000s, he had a string of failed franchises which exacerbated the dilemma in the previous sentence. In the 2000s, he couldn't parlay his WWE marketability into a movie that made Hunger Games/Star Wars/Terminator type money.
Anybody saying otherwise is LYING or is too young to remember.
Then...he came on to Fast & Furious.
Match made in heaven.
F5 did like $600 million. F6 did like $700 million. F7 did like $1.5 billion.
Because of how successful these movies were, the perception that The Rock wasn't capable of being an A-List movie star dissipated. Movie studios started getting comfortable with the idea of a wrestler starring in the lead role in their major productions (e.g. a movie they need to be a hit) whereas before in let's say, 2005, they weren't.
This change in opinion led to him getting GI Joe. San Andreas. Jumanji. Baywatch. Skyscaper. Rampage.
He wasn't getting them roles in 2005.
Again....anybody saying otherwise is a liar or too young to remember.
F&F helped him.....ALOT.
