It did.

lol at that idiot bringing up GI Joe when it came out in 2013....two years after he started starring in Fast & Furious....which helped elevate his box office draw. You will not find a single summer blockbuster smash movie (as in, above $500 million) in the Rock's filmography from 1999 to 2010. If you can find one, I'll shut up. Walking Tall. Snitch. The Run Down. Doom. Gridiron Gang. Faster. All flops.

His biggest movies were Scorpion King ($165 million on $60 million budget), Tooth Fairy ($112 million on $48 million budget) and The Game Plan ($146 million on $22 million budget). And really The Tooth Fairy wasn't really a success because you need to make 2-3x your budget back for the studio to draw a profit. The studio isn't trying to make $10 million profit on a movie. They're trying to make $200-$300 million profit on a movie. And Rock wasn't doing that. It's a fact. Straight up.

His solo films before F&F were barely doing over $100 million.

Then he joins a franchise that did $1.5 billion dollars at the box office.

So, yes. Fast & Furious absolutely raised his profile.
That doesn't make any sense... Just because the movies the Rock have been in didn't gross $500 million doesn't mean his career needed saving. The Rock was in FIFTEEN(15) movies( one cameo) before he joined Fast 5 if anything the Fast and The Furious franchise needed The Rock to save them.

Are you saying the FF franchise saved The Rock's career?:mjlol:
Yes.

The only successful films he was in before fast five were children's films, with exception of the scorpion king which was a spin off from a huge franchise.

Almost every single film he tried to headline before fast five flopped.

Rundown. Flop.
Faster. Flop.
Snitch. Flop.
Doom. Flop.
Empire state. Flop.
Southland tales. Flop.
Walking Tall. Flop.

The list goes on and on.

And about 12 of those 15 movies were flops.

How old are you?

If you're not at least 28 years old, then your perspective is worthless.

You dweebs are trying to argue that he's responsible for F&F making $1.5 billion dollars when none of the Rock movies where he was the leading man ever made more than $150 million. If The Rock was a billion dollar brand, then there should have been a few billion dollar blockbusters from The Rock before Fast & Furious. Or at the very least some $500 million, $600 million, $700 million movies. You won't find one because he wasn't.

A franchise that was on its fifth film and last film made more than any rock film had before it needed him to save it? :dead:

I don't know what you consider flops but when Walking Tall came out it was 2nd to Hellboy for the gross opening weekend and The Rundown grossed #1 during its opening weekend when it released. Y'all are reaching hard here, The Rock did not need saving during anytime in his acting career. The name alone brought people to the seats to watch these movies and by quick glance most of these movies grossed more than their budget.

remove the from from Fast 5 and so forth and the series would be worst than it already is. Fast & Furious(Part 4) was also garbage.

You have no idea how box office works :mjlol:

Movie studios do not get 100% of the gross.

Theatres in the us take about 50%. Worldwide theaters take 50-70%.

Run down made 80 million on an 85 million budget

Cut that gross in half as the theatres take their cut. That's about $40 million going to the studio on an $85 million budget.

That $85 million does not include marketing costs

Those films lost heavy money.

Rock was on his way to becoming a straight to DVD star before fast five.

I don't think anybody is saying The Rock had hits but his movies were popular because of him. It's like the people are forgetting how big "The Rock" name was in the early 2000s
They ain't forgot shyt..He's a icon and drew ratings on every appearance he ever did on tv. Prime Britney, N Sync, Usher, Eminem, 50 Cent were never that big. Video games with his name. Got some of the highest and most praised SNL appearances in history. Was standing right next to Bill Gates when he debuted X Box in NY. Got some of the highest bought ppvs in history post Tyson era. He was getting paid 10$-15 million a flick when he joined Fast 5..which nobody gave a fukk about with Bow Wow and those types in the front seat. They called Rocky to save this shyt and the box office rerlturms since he joined blew away the first 4 without any fukking question. Dude is giving Kevin Hart hits..everyone wanted the spinoff with him and Sam Jackson.

These little nyggas are fronting like a motherf1cker...this is the f1cking Rock..the Jordan of pro wrestling.

In that industry Tyrese should know better. No "family" talk is gonna make someone pass on a film series. He's acting feminine.
