It always irks me that the Criminal Justice system does nothing for the victim.

They're minors, and should be treated the same we treat any minors who kill a person accidentally in the commission of a crime. That ain't 60 years.

I've met plenty of kids with questionable or little to no moral character growing up

once your kids leave the house, they are a product of influence other than you e.g. their friends, the media, their environment, etc.
