Quick question -- people spoke out against how foundational AAs are portrayed and stereotyped in that CBS "comedy" "Abishola and we all agreed that it was demeaning, bad quality, bad writing, not funny, not a good look and problematic. We didn't like how we were objectified and mislabeled or identified in that show. But now it's "tolerable, people eat it up, " with TP type shows and 'crab in the barrel' to call for accountability in improved quality of material. TP shows imo, are giving them material to satire our culture from. I'm not understanding how yall could defend this type of programming when it speaks to the negativity and demeaning content that is prevalent in other shows just for the sake of "oh, it's Tyler Perry, he's going to do what he does".. ???:hula:

I don't "eat it up" because I don't watch or support it...:mjlol:

His content always been trash. Have we known this for years, or just found this out yesterday? :hula:

I just support his accomplishments overall as a black man, from the distance. He's done more harm then good. You watchin his shows expecting some epic...when he's already had a trash track record...:dead:

House of Payne was his only show I enjoyed.

Classic series

House of Payne so underrated :wow: pretty good acting for a sitcom too :ehh:

The thing about Tyler Perry's other shows is that its always the same shyt, crooked politician, an angry black woman, a gay black dude, an ain't shyt black dude, an affair, and an interracial couple, boom theres your Tyler Perry shows.

Breh is like Netflix, he has a whole studio with no quality control. He just let's people make whatever they want because he has no idea what a good screenplay looks like. What's hilarious is that Brad Pitt is a more successful producer of black content than Tyler Perry :mjlol:
Is he?

With that being said -- if he gets credit for that -- he also gets credit for helping usher out Black American/ADOS actors out of Hollywood.

Plan B production company has a new series for Amazon called The Underground Railroad - and guess what -- non ADOS lead.

:ohhh:

I just realized something about Tyler Perry's dramatic TV content, and after watching that clip with the woman hitting her head with that awful acting.

Whether he realizes it or not......he is making Black Telenovelas or Black Soap Operas.

That chicks acting is basically a Latin American telenovela. So not to say the content is "quality", but it's basically telenovela/soap opera for black audiences. It doesn't have to be Spike Lee level work, its designed for a particular audience that likes that type of content, the same way American soap operas and Latin telenovelas do.

Two different things IMO.

Again, Soap Operas is a genre -- all soaps are corny and trash and over the top. No matter who playing them.

On Bob Loves .... they are spewing White Supremacist stereotypes against ADOS. Stereotypes that the creator hasn't even experienced here in America.

One is created by and for ADOS. - Tyler.

The other is created by a non-ADOS with no connection to ADOS -- for a White and non-ADOS audience and on a large white network.

BET is not a black owned network . BET networks is owned by Viacom, which has merged with CBS and is a legal successor to Viacom's network of media. Non-ADOS people get their content from the major broadcasting networks, as well, the UK and the US are the two dominant international media markets. Being that Tyler Perry is affiliated with CBS, the same network that produces Abishola, you don't see a problem here? There's no "alerts" that make you question the content or affiliation between the low quality of production and stereotypes that Tyler puts out there and the connect between the content of the Abishola show regardless of who or what culture puts the product out there? It's still a bad representation either way.
-loud talking, oversexualized black women
-hyper aggressive or feminized black men
- Interracial dynamics in white/black dating situations
-lack of positive role models
-lack of substance in subject matter

I think Tyler likes to be a one man show too much.

I’ve never been a fan of his like that. I always thought his movies were over the top and the writing left much to be desired, but enough people love him which probably gives him the mindset that he has nothing to improve on.

yea with a black studio I think alot of people chelsea thought we see great black movies out that and wasn't expecting same ol same ol

not taking into account that never been tyler lane really. I'm not knocking but he made alot of movies like madea.

it's still early I hope good things happen

I give him some credit -- but I'm not going to put him over Tyler and what Tyler has done for Black folks.

Yes, Brad done some projects with ADOS actors -- but they more so have been established names.

He's done a few that has been ADOS actors - they are usually well-known ADOS actors. It is rare for the films they partner with are bringing new ADOS talent to the forefront. He also is cool with co-signing historical based films that do not place ADOS in lead roles.
