Whoever reviewed that audition... wowwwwww.. plays out like he's on a SNL reel.

Yall must not know old Black folks be eating this shyt up.

My momma and aunts LIVE for "If Loving You Is Wrong" and the "Have and Have Nots."

Those shows are just like this.

They love Black soap operas -- and soap operas in general.

Tyler knows his audience -- and it's not them. Its older folks.

tyler need to put out quality production since he own a studio and need to get young new talent.

this isn't it
I think Tyler likes to be a one man show too much.

I’ve never been a fan of his like that. I always thought his movies were over the top and the writing left much to be desired, but enough people love him which probably gives him the mindset that he has nothing to improve on.

Modern day minstrel blaxpoitation type tv series, films and movies are okay, as long as the "old people" like and are entertained by them. :ld:
No reason to broaden the scope of his movies and tv other soap opera tales, creating other more quality content like (mysteries, action, legal based dramas, medical dramas, news and current events, documentaries) with the induction of his new studio?

I have only seen a few minutes of each - due to my mom.

But, "Minstrel" or "Minstrel" like would not be the word/term I use to describe them. Neither is "Blaxploitation."

They are simply Soap Operas-- and that is what many older Black women and men like.

My mom still watches old Cowboy shows like "Gunsmoke" DAILY. When I was little I remember my Grannie made us take a nap for her to watch "As the World Turns."

Tyler understands his target/audience. That audience and loyalty of that audience has given him everything he has. That audience paid for that legendary studio.

The issue is many Black people always complain about what he needs to do - but best believe if and when he did that -- it wouldn't be well received - and his loyal audience that really keeps him thriving would question what's going on.

I say let Mr. Perry do what he does best. He is offering experience, opps and exposure for others to grow and do those other types of projects you mentioned.

His shows nowadays (especially on the OWN channel) come across as black soap operas (Have and Have Nots etc) well imo at least. They're very different from Meet The Browns & the OG/new versions of House of Pain etc.

IDK the vibe of his shows seem very different from his old stuff and his old stuff mediocre but tolerable. I don't like his new stuff so much tho.
Quick question -- people spoke out against how foundational AAs are portrayed and stereotyped in that CBS "comedy" "Abishola and we all agreed that it was demeaning, bad quality, bad writing, not funny, not a good look and problematic. We didn't like how we were objectified and mislabeled or identified in that show. But now it's "tolerable, people eat it up, " with TP type shows and 'crab in the barrel' to call for accountability in improved quality of material. TP shows imo, are giving them material to satire our culture from. I'm not understanding how yall could defend this type of programming when it speaks to the negativity and demeaning content that is prevalent in other shows just for the sake of "oh, it's Tyler Perry, he's going to do what he does".. ???:hula:
