House of Payne so underrated :wow: pretty good acting for a sitcom too :ehh:

The thing about Tyler Perry's other shows is that its always the same shyt, crooked politician, an angry black woman, a gay black dude, an ain't shyt black dude, an affair, and an interracial couple, boom theres your Tyler Perry shows.

he bragged that it took him 2 weeks to write a whole season while on vacation. his Meet the Browns show averaged 28 episodes per season, so it's not like these are lil miniseries.

most shows are written by a group and takes weeks/months with multiple drafts before one episode is finished.

BET is not a black owned network . BET networks is owned by Viacom, which has merged with CBS and is a legal successor to Viacom's network of media. Non-ADOS people get their content from the major broadcasting networks, as well, the UK and the US are the two dominant international media markets. Being that Tyler Perry is affiliated with CBS, the same network that produces Abishola, you don't see a problem here? There's no "alerts" that make you question the content or affiliation between the low quality of production and stereotypes that Tyler puts out there and the connect between the content of the Abishola show regardless of who or what culture puts the product out there? It's still a bad representation either way.

I understand and know that -- but the point is - one is not blatantly spewing stereotypes about a group of people. One is a soap-opera genre.

Tyler Perry shows are not disrespecting Black Americans. They aint saying that our children could never be doctors and are trash.

I don't see wha you see -- sorry. We have to agree to disagree.

:ohhh:

I just realized something about Tyler Perry's dramatic TV content, and after watching that clip with the woman hitting her head with that awful acting.

Whether he realizes it or not......he is making Black Telenovelas or Black Soap Operas.

That chicks acting is basically a Latin American telenovela. So not to say the content is "quality", but it's basically telenovela/soap opera for black audiences. It doesn't have to be Spike Lee level work, its designed for a particular audience that likes that type of content, the same way American soap operas and Latin telenovelas do.
Wrong - there is a whole network for Latin American telenovelas. The telenovelas don't eclipse the entire experience of the spanish and hispanic community, but as black people, we seem to give a pass to have our experiences categorized under one umbrella. The issue is that there is no DIVERSITY in the types of programming that is put out there for black audiences by black executives. He's in a position to do so, but doesn't.

So we're going to act like we don't see the upsurge in (Latinos/Latinas) taking on roles in tv outside of the spectrum of the telenovela. You're going to act like NBC, ABC, CBS, USA Network etc all have Latin and Central American drama series whereas black actors/actresses have nothing but "comedic" or "telenovela" tv on major broadcasting stations. They have shows like Queen of the South, The Mayans, IN ADDITION to their soap opera dramatic series - you don't see them replacing roles in regular dramatic series that black actors used to have prominent roles in bc we continue to settle for unsubstantive content that Tyler puts out?? Funny but Antoine Fuqua (black creator/director/producer) has a major show on FOX that includes black people as Doctors and Surgeons with black men and women not c00ning, wenching or dating out, no gayness or emasculation that no one supports; but certain people on this thread seem to gravitate toward defending Tyler Perry's mediocre substance to his shows. Most of Antoine Fuqua's movies are not stereotypical and show some diversity of thought. I bet most of the people in this thread don't even know the name of Fuqua's show without googling it. So what's the problem with Tyler Perry expanding his horizons since he's in a position to, why isn't he held up to the same accountability?

Has a whole studio and proceeds to put out garbage content yet people glorify it as if his whole studio wasn't built off pushing agendas and stereotypes. Dude has the ability to put out quality productions with character depth and storylines but it's more of the same. B.S. looks worse than a IG skit, could pass for a "Funny or Die" episode..
Hyped all that my studio is built on a confederate site blah blah, just to put out some trash.

I think the attention his studio has gotten has put a bigger spotlight on his content, even though it’s the same trash, he has a bigger responsibility now to put out more quality content.

I give him some credit -- but I'm not going to put him over Tyler and what Tyler has done for Black folks.

Yes, Brad done some projects with ADOS actors -- but they more so have been established names.

He's done a few that has been ADOS actors - they are usually well-known ADOS actors. It is rare for the films they partner with are bringing new ADOS talent to the forefront. He also is cool with co-signing historical based films that do not place ADOS in lead roles.
What about Antoine Fuqua? He's ADOS employs ADOS actors that are well known.
