What's he got to do with this? He didn't have shyt to do with season 1

Rust Cohle's most iconic dialogue was directly lifted off of someone else's work.

Once this dialogue is removed, the writing becomes a whole lot less extraordinary other than episodes 4 and 5....but even those episodes its tough to say whether the writing or directing was most responsible for the quality

Fact is, The Pizz has not proven his prowess with a pen yet, and through 2 episodes he is looking shaky. In particular, that paper maiche dialogue was Dorne status

People comparing this cast to Woody Harrelson and Matthew Mcconaughey and talking about they're some great actors but how many people initially saw True D season 1 before it aired and thought "Matthew McConaughey - I need to watch that shyt :lupe:"

Dude killed the role but I pretty much reckon the majority of people who watched it didn't think he was gonna kill it the way he did. I may be wrong as I wasn't in the True D season 1 thread last season but I know I personally avoided that shyt cause he was in it until somebody had to put it on to make me watch it. When dude levelled up in ep 4 though that's when I became a fan.

I say that to say two eps ain't enough to fairly judge this season. I'm personally enjoying it so far and I'm interested in seeing where it goes.
MM had been on a tear killing shyt for a few years in smaller roles and Dallas Buyers Club had just come out two months before.

I honestly tuned into the first season on the strength of the names Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. I knew nothing else about what it was even supposed to be about or who was writing/directing. I decided to watch it 10 minutes before the first episode aired because I saw those two names.

Woody is known for being one of the greats, underrated as hell but always delivers, and McConaughey has had boss skills since A Time to Kill.

I'm not mad at all with this season's cast either. I have faith that Vince can do it if given the right material. McAdams and Farrell have always delivered when they needed to. It's all in how they are utilized.

As bothered as I was by the apparent murder of Colin Farrell's character what made the second episode so shytty was that interminable monologue they gave to Vince Vaughn at the beginning of the show.
The guy is awful and that scene is the most damning evidence that he really should not have been cast in this show.

Fast pacing isn't the same as good pacing though. Matter of fact, one of the things I really appreciate about the first season is how much of a slow burn it is.

If this show wasn't titled True Detective I wonder how different the opinions would be.

Show has been solid so far, story is progressing, I am expecting it to take off in the next 2 subsequent ep.
it would probably be called "The vinci's code" no one would watch it due to the 1st episode and would end up a huge flop for hbo

People complaining about this season moving slow is :dead: to me. You can tell off rip who binged the first season.

My problem is how two episodes in a row only the last 60 seconds of the episode has got me genuinely into the plot. Oh, and last ep finding out that Vaughn's character was basically broke now got me invested some, too. But thus far, it's mostly been a character piece with really over the top characters and all the mystery is about what happened to them to make them the way they are and I just don't give a shyt.

Every time the show hits pause to focus on their issues is really boring for me. The opening scenes in this second ep with the flashbacks showing how all their respective forces were instructing them to spy on the others was dope, but I really don't hope every episode doesn't come with 20 minutes of their personal shyt.

That's where "good" versus slow or fast pacing comes in. The first season is so well paced because they let all this shyt slowly unfold around the truly most interesting thing, this fukked up case they were working.

And I don't think people are overrating Season 1. It's genuinely one of the best seasons of TV ever. This season was always going to struggle to live up to it, but it feels like they're making silly, avoidable mistakes.

That's not my point and i agree with your sentinment. The vast majority of people's complaints on this seasons pacing is because they claim its too slow...when im just pointing out this seasons pace has been way faster than season 1's...so i don't know what they're complaining about

I have to agree with the casting of Vince Vaughn. I can't take this guy serious as a bad guy. I think they could have did a better job. His voice is so annoying

2 episodes in and I'm very disappointed with season 2:francis:.

Everything seems so forced. Trying too hard to be gritty. And I think they messed up having 4 mains.

I'm gonna watch the full season but so far I'm not feeling it at all
