Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
It's on now brehs :lupe:

A lot of you were right about them theories :obama:

Did Rust started offing people behind this "conspiracy" between 02'-10'? :damn:

I'll be pissed as fukk is Rust ends up being the Yellow King so they better go all in on this "big friends in high places" angle

my theory has always been its the governor... he was too big an actor to have that quick little cameo.. and they made this huge deal about the task force and how he wanted them to run things

now in the previews for the next ep, it shows rust speaking to the governor

I don't think the plan was ever for rust to be the guy.. too Hollywood with the trick "it was him all along" type ending

I like discussing shows on here but some of you are too good at processing clues and information. Someone called the state government cover up theory last week, and now this week someone mentions that Rust might still be working the case, which seems like where this is going next. It's a spoiler without being one

I don't think Marty is still on the case with Rust though. Remember in the beginning he said Rust was perfect for homicide because he becomes so obsessed and involved with the case, almost too much so. Marty has probably moved on like he said and Rust is still working it without Marty's knowledge. His facial expression changed when the cops gave out some details of Rust's interview, implying that this was news to him. Plus the previews from the next episode seemed to show where Marty and Rust start to fall out.

But then again, Marty has been leaving out details and fabricating his story the whole time so who knows.

Anyone notice the black stars on the windows at the end of the ep:

Fred.

That black star on the left was the first thing I noticed. Another cool pick up, Rust is obviously an atheist, and dogs religion often. But, in both interrogation scenes they've shown where he's working a suspect, he takes on that role of being the vessel of them to confess, very much like a preacher. Both interrogations have shown Rust focusing on their need for redemption and to be forgiven. I find that interesting.

This show is getting better and better, and I love tracking shows with The Coli. Per usual, some great conversation and interpretation. It's good to have your thoughts/ideas reaffirmed by others, but even more important to be able to view the show differently, or pay attention to things you weren't before. Definitely a lot of good theories and views floating around this thread. It makes the show that much more fun to follow.

I think that Russ was running circles around the detectives, but I don't think that they were as helplessly foolish as we assume. True, his story is inadmissible in court, but I feel like those detectives took a calculated risk talking to him. They either wanted to know THAT bad, or they thought it was worth it just to talk to him, to see if he could corroborate any part of the story that they had uncovered.

With only three episodes left, it's going to be great to see where the story turns next. So I'm guessing we'll see another reveal or two from the 2002 timeline, and some sort of plan between the two before Russ goes off the grid. With the remainder of the story taking place in the present. I'm guessing ep06 is 2002/present jumping back and forth, and the last two episodes are present only.

That episode was :whoo:

The show continues it's march towards flat out horror. It's funny Rust talked about time and eternity in this episode, "An Inhabitant Of Carcosa" by Bierce is about a man that wakes up lost with no memory how to get home. At first he think it's just a hallucination due to him having a fever, but eventually he finds a grave, which is his own, and the ruins of Carcosa. He was lost in time the whole story:

Rust definitely ain't the killer....it's basically impossible at this point in the story without some serious plot gymnastics. We see him find the wooden triangles in the school, there's no reason to show us the audience that if he's responsible for any part of the murders.

Fred.

Do you think this show will venture into any flat-out supernatural stuff? It's walked the line at times. I don't think it will, but I like the undertones.

What's the significance of those beer can figures he was making during his testimony? Didn't he arrange them in a formation that was similar to how Marty's daughter had her dolls set up? That one time Marty called them down for dinner?

I still want to know where Marty's daughter got that slutlife mindset ingrained in her head. She was like a robot, drawing and acting out hardcore stuff as a child, then she grows up and hops in the ride with two guys to do what she was put on earth to do.

Her messed up lipstick/makeup???:patrice:

I was trying to follow along with that as well, and thought that I that too, but I think that he was just arranging them in a circle and one happened to fall over, so it looked like one of Marty's daughter's masterpieces

That last scene in the school with the black stars and the woods around the window makes me think that the killer has some place where he's specifically dropping the bodies.

:lupe:

I don't know, but that scene just came off as very foreshadowing to me. Rust putting the light on a graveyard as he's examining the stick figures which represent dead bodies.

I think it was playing more into what Rust was talking about with the circle of life and all that.

I'm sure Fred will come in the thread and sprinkle game all over our posts.

but straight up down.. dont talk to me about breaking bad, game of thrones... all that shyt... if u aint sayin true detective is the best show on tv... you probably have an iq under 100.

If it finishes strong, this might be the greatest season of a TV show I would have ever watched. Have to wait 3 weeks for it.

It has a long way to getting to those other shows as a whole because of the quantity of episodes those shows had to put out, but it's on a good early path.
