Suicide King

So
I said this on another board
"As for Cohle the suspect, I think that's too obvious from jump to be it. I get the red herring vibe on it so I'm going with a different idea altogether and guessing that they suspect foul play/planted evidence to be the issue. There are two hints in the opening toward that end:
A. When Cohle finds the wooden blair witch looking thing at the second location (the pitcher's house), he's completely by himself with no eyes on him.
B. As soon as Cohle sees the crime scene and begins profiling the killer, Woody warns him that a detective who makes assumptions about the perp will start to twist his view of evidence to fit the crime.
Way too early in the season to get a real feel for all the implications of an opening episode...but since I like to jump on twists, that was my instant guess after reflection on the episode. I also don't think a potential killer would be shown the evidence they have so comfortably...they didn't just give him the picture, they handed him the full case file and folder.f"
To plant evidence and frame someone is iffy, because the real killer would keep killing.
