Nah nah I mean, planned in the sense that Rust knew about it, so he'd tell Marty to listen to the radio because some shyt would pop off. He had no idea the heist or anything like it would happen prior to meeting Ginger. He assumed it might go bad, but not to the extent that it did. It could've went wrong a lot of ways that wouldn't register on a police scanner is what I'm saying.

It would've made more sense if he knew about the heist beforehand and that's why he gave the radio to Marty. Fully expecting to possibly die, but "hey if you can get to me in time so be it".

Fred.

I feel you to an extent but Rust had previous dealings with this biker game and I'm pretty sure when Ginger told him about the plan Rust was like :whoa: I ain't into that armed robbery, bank heist shyt anymore. Leads one to believe he had some type of idea what he might have to do in order to prove he can be trusted again. Ginger was like i don't know you anymore and Rust is like and I don't know you anymore either but he does know how they get down. he was a prospect while he was undercover so he should be very familiar with that biker gang's initiation process and the things that are required of those to prove that they are down for the cause. they ain't robbing a bank at night and with all those rebel flags floating around those dirty ass cacs it wouldn't be hard to deduce they were going to take it to the projects to attempt to put in some twerk.......

So we know that Rust had prior dealings the Iron Crusaders and they knew him as "Crash" a badass who was down for anything so its safe to say Rust wanting to play his expected role as "badass" anticipated some over the top shyt to follow. Not to mention that Ginger seeked him out only after a week or so of him showing his face around, which would indicate some level of desperation (considering that they thought Rust/Crash was dead/ lack of any recent communication) or expendability for Rust on Ginger's part.

The part that got me buggin tho is when Rust had Ginger outside by himself when they were at the Iron Crusaders basecamp and didn't snatch him up then. In terms of risk assessment , he had already heard the plan to storm Mogadishu and he highlighted several reasons why shyt would flop but given the certainly safer chance to snatch Ginger up he didn't, which is why his remark during the one shot " i should've done this earlier" shows us on some level he wanted to be involved in that shoot out fukkery.

I was under the impression he (Rust) actually enjoyed it to an extent.

Maybe. But Rust himself didn't even know it would get that crazy, the heist wasn't planned. It's a pretty big leap of logic to go from "I see Rust on a boat" to "World War III is in the hood, it must be Rust".

Like I said, it doesn't bother me enough to matter. But you have to suspend disbelief a lot more than we've had to do so far in this series, so it kind of stood out.

Fred.

Agreed. It was either lazy writing or bad editing. It was something that could have been explained or shown in a much better way.

i thought maybe it was implied that rust was going in the general direction of the river and marty followed him that way, and since its probably a small town (where exactly were they?) getting from A to B doesn't take long. but everything was so intense at that point i wasn't really following it that closely

yeah i see it as more of an oversight that they could have easily fixed, not a big deal but still kind of strange

I don't know why people keep saying Rust fukks Marty's wife. He has zero interest in her.

What I was thinking would be cool, is if this bullshyt heist comes back on Rust and they kill Marty's wife because they see her with Rust.

Fred.
Huh??? Ginger was the only guy who made it out alive. I know he is crazy but how would he even knows where they live? He would have to be totally insane to kill a cops wife .

I'm wondering if most of what we saw in episode 4 was Marty's version of events. Some semi-ridiculous things happened:

  • Marty connecting the iron crusaders to ledoux
  • Marty being able to show up to the hood in 90 seconds
From what I have seen of the show, the writers aren't dumb enough to think these coincidences are plausible. But Marty is for sure dumb enough to think the two cops interviewing him would think they are plausible.
Marty connecting Reggie to the gang was getting the info from the snitch he followed.
Marty is a cop. A veteran at that who lives in a car with all the traveling they have to do. He is a native of the area and listened to the scanner to connect the dots. As soon as they arrived and got out the car someone called the cops.
Also what gives you the idea they even mentioned the project raid to these new cops? From watching the interviews they never mention any of that stuff.

"Crash" has been missing for years, shows up, is seen by multiple people at the bar, leaves with 4 guys, 3 are dead, one is missing, and you think no other criminals connected to them would question that?

And yeah, Ginger is insane. Look at the plan he came up with. Unless he somehow dies in the next ep I'm kinda confused how they plan on keeping him from revealing who Rust is to every goon in Texas.

Beaumont, Texas. It isn't really a small town though, it's a medium sized city.

What probably happened was Nic Pizzolatto wrote towards the end of the episode. He probably figured "the last 6 minutes are so much crack, I doubt people will question the logistics of how we got there". And he's mostly right.
