if they had spent another 5-10 minutes making a case for why it was ok for rust to sleep with maggie, would it have been ok with you guys?
it seems like a lot of this stems from viewers assuming that a character like Rust would never throw caution to the wind and ravish his partner's wife just by her simply getting within 6 inches of him.
if they had built up the tension, or had a mini-montage of them drinking that bottle of wine and sharing laughs, or her crying more and more until they lost each other (like Monsters Ball) would that have been appropriate?
is it the fact that he even crossed that line?
no offense to anyone in here, but this is coming off like a writers' workshop. a writers' workshop that doesn't really even matter. the writer knew what he wanted the characters to do. the chemistry and play around Rust and Maggie had been on screen a few times before. she calmed him down and made him feel welcome (probably the first one in town to do so), Marty didn't even want Rust around his wife without him there. It's not like this came out of nowhere, they had poked at the idea a few times. a few of the posters were calling it from the first second the characters were on-screen. it was right in front of our faces, lol.
Sorry if it's not what you wanted Rust to do, but it's what they had in store for his character, and the entirety of this season.
I don't even know why this is a point of contention? It's not like she told Marty that she slept with Rust and we never saw the scene to confirm it for our own eyes. She came over, they had sex, we saw it with our eyes. Did it advance the story in a quick fashion? Yes. Thank god. I would have been pissed if they wasted 5-10 minutes giving every viewer a reason for why something like that should happen. It happened. It was a moment in a show. They made it happen fast because they don't waste a lot of time, and she had to catch Rust slipping.
Did you want them to show her trying Rust 3 or 4 times until he finally slipped up? Or have her hang all over him for half the episode until he did the deed? They did what they had to do, the show moved on, they didn't torture us through longer than it had to last. WE HAVE A MYSTERY TO SOLVE, WE DON'T HAVE TIME TO TRY TO MAKE SENSE OUT OF A MAN'S PRIMAL NEED TO POKE. He poked, so what, it was on paper for them to have sex for who knows how long.
One way or another, it was written for them to have sex. And it was written by a person, or people, who lived, breathed, ate, drank, slept, pooped, fukked out these characters. I'll give it to them to lay the characters out the way that they should behave.
