Are African Americans and Afro Caribbeans black? Because using your logic they're not due to them being colonized by Europeans and the interbreeding in their histories. So someone with a white great grandmother would not be considered black using your logic

Like honestly bro. I don't want to insult you man but you really must have studied at the @Ronnie Lott schoolhouse for negros..:snoop:

Someone who is lightskinned like Michael Ealy or Beyonce won't have the same experiences as someone like Obama or Paula Patton or Halle Berry because their family makeup is completely different. How hard is that to understand? I'm not denying their blackness and what you just did is 100% the reason why people automatically equate light skin = mixed raced. They are entirely different things.

Have you asked obama and halle berry what they have experienced personally? You are doing some major presumptions about what type of racism other people experienced without even knowing them. I mean obama himself has had some major racist shyt said toward him from republicans in public, I can't imagine what was said to him in private.

as someone else posted, there is no bible to race. i consider black a person someone with two parents who are easily identified as black. if you have 1 parent who is clearly outside of your race, (like obama) you're mixed.

At the beginning of mean streets
Politically yes. Biologically no. Still allowing white racism to dictate to how we identify is troubling. You guys oversimplify a very complicated discussion. White racists view all black people negatively but there's levels to racism. Not all racism is the same. Some acknowledge that he has a white mother which means they don't believe as @kermit da hustla a black person can be prominent without that white touch.

"Obama isn't really black" These are all things that are equally racist. One a person who says that isn't factually wrong but they are implying what's mentioned above.

You have light skin privilege that usually follows mixed raced heritage. Politically he is black though because he was born at a time where "colored" was still used on birth certificates. Today in 2013 where people are increasingly representing their mixed raced heritage you start to see what's happening politically and socially and that's an ever increasing anti-black America. You can be a little black, but not too black. :mjpls: Black women have seen their image diluted something serious by mixed raced "black" women solely identifying as black.

:heh: Race is not genetic breh, that's the point. Racial categories were created to marginalize a group of people, to the point where if you had even a drop of the marginalized group's blood, you were considered one of them. Ever heard of high yella? They were blacks who could pass, to the point where they'd hide their black parentage so they could join high society in the South. That's why terms like tragic mulatto and uncle tom were created. Race can't even attribute to phenotype much less genotype.

But there's flaws to your argument, so Obama is mixed, marries a black woman and has 2 daughters but they're not mixed? Or are his daughters considered mixed? I always felt it depends on how you're brought up and what way you're raised, for example someone like Bob Marley is black due to his upbringing and how he was raised.

So what is considered black then? African Americans and Afro Caribbeans aren't considered black due to the mixing in their ancestry? Just trying to see some of the coli logic

Dude you have biracial people(people of two different races), Mixed race, multigenerational mixed and so on. Let's get rid of this notion that all black people in America are heavily mixed raced. Factually it's not true. You are mostly black. You might be carrying 15% in you but you couldn't find a non-black relative for damn 200 years and that's most black people. I know it warms most of you negroes soul to think you have some long lost Irish relative out there waiting to reunite with you, but it ain't happening.s There isn't one pure race in the Americas yet there isn't this obtuseness you get in discussion with other races when this topic comes up. Simple distinctions breh. Multigenerational Mixed people are what you consider most Dominicans, Brazilians, etc which is why largely South and Latin Americans go by their nationalities because the simplification of American race classifications don't tell the entire story.

obamas kids are more than 50% black though, if he went the other way and had kids with a white woman -- would they still be black?

and since you believe it's purely upbringing, can 100% white children be raised black if their parents are black?

He is doing the same exact thing whites did with the one drop rule. :heh: Being black is a crap shoot, there is no genotype for being black, it's just your roots and whether or not they trace back to Subsaharan Africa (and if you claim it and you down for it). That's why I laugh at the stupidity cause my Dad was African American and even lighter than Obama but nobody could tell him he wasn't black.

I'm just saying....we can't have progress with old, primitive ways of thinking. Its time to move forward and be productive. If our achievers sat around having redundant arguments about the purity of bloodlines we'd be doomed. Find the productive minded individuals and build toward something while everybody else debates about shades.
