The thing that stood out about Brock last game....

He really did seem like an extension of Kyle.

Perfectly schemed up short passes at the right time to get YAC. Kyle seems unsure at times what to call for Lance. Thats not really blaming Kyle either. He just has a better rhythm with Purdy for his system.

Trey probably fits better with an Andy Reid style offense tbh. Less precision and more chunk plays.

If Ronnie Bell pans out. Trade that PAC 12 Bum Aiyuk to the Giants.
Is Aiyuk is in a contract year? We ain't keeping him long term most likely, but unless he gets injured I wouldn't trade him and to let him cook with us and earn that future paycheck elsewhere :hubie:

BTW breh, what the hell you gonna do now that the PAC-12 is basically done? :russ:

Let's take a look at our Defensive Line:

Defensive Line:

Nick Bosa: Nick Bosa the reigning DPOY. What impresses me about Nick Bosa is that he could easily be a 10-15 sack player just off his power and athleticism but what I noticed last season is that he has actually continued to work on his finesse and technique. He can overpower tackles with his raw strength or just blow past them on the line of scrimmage with his speed or he can use his elite repertoire of swim moves, hand fighting and footwork to go inside the numbers of opposing offensive linemen as well. We need to get this man under contract as soon as possible as he will have a HOF career in the scarlet and gold should he stay mostly healthy

Performance: A+
Potential: A
Overall: A+

Javon Hargrave - The 84 million dollar man. This signing is a little unlike John Lynch who tends to lean conservative with value adds but after seeing the impact he had on the Eagles, it made sense to bring him in to add to an already elite defensive line. Notching 11 sacks last year with the Eagles, he could easily get double digit sacks alongside Nick Bosa as well as have an impact on both running and passing downs. Between him and Nick Bosa you have maybe 2 of the best 15 players in the NFL on either side of the ball. Even past 30 he can probably play at an elite level for at least another 2 or 3 years.

Performance: A
Potential: A-
Overall: A+

Arik Armstead - 2015 1st round pick. Armstead has only had 1 double digit sack season but but he is a great run stopper and is the type of defensive tackle that is foundational to a teams success. He sets the table and does alot of the dirty work that makes it easier for the this team's pass rushers, The defense looks better when this veteran is on the field. He is also local to the Bay area and is essentially a team ambassador as he does a lot of work fighting for the rights of the less fortunate in the area and hosts activities that involve charity work and children. He is still an impactful player after 8 years in the league and he should be for the next few years.

Performance: B
Potential: B-
Overall B

Drake Jackson Jr - Drake Jackson was drafted in the 2nd round of the draft last year. At only 21, he was a very raw talent who possessed bgreat balance and length. He notched 3 sacks in his rookie outing but also came into the season not being in the best shape last year. He will need to be ready this season as his snap count is going to be a lot higher and he will need to be a key part of this defense. I believe he is up to the task.

Performance: B-
Potential: B
Overall: B-

Javon Kinlaw - 2020 draft pick, Kinlaw has not been able to live up to his draft status more so because he replaced Pro Bowler DeForest Buckner who was traded away for the 1st round pick that became Kinlaw. Kinlaw came in a good run stopper but unproven in the pass rush though he showed flashes. This year he is expected to be healthy after essentially rehabbing for 2 seasons in a row. He is going to be an important part of the rotation, he doesn't need to be Superman but he needs to stay healthy as the back end of this defensive line rotation is not as strong as it was in years past.

Performance: C-
Potential: B
Overall: C+

Kevin Givens - 2019 UDFA. Kevin Givens has been a solid rotational player since he joined the team. Penn State has a knack for developing solid defenders and Givens continues that. Playing on special teams and making a few impact plays. Every team needs high effort team guys to anchor the back end of rotation. I expect his snaps to increase this year to spell the starters.

Performance: C+
Potential: C+
Overall: C+

Clelin Ferrell - Former #4 2019 draft pick, Ferrell never lived up to being a top 5 pick, part of it was just being over drafted but also not really being a system fit in Oakland/Las Vegas. But he will get a new lease on life in a more suitable system on a better team. Ferrell has had a good camp and was impressive in the the pre-season for the most part. He will likely split snaps with Drake Jackson and contribute on special teams.

Performance: C
Potential: B-
Overall: C+

Robert Beal Jr - 2023 5th round draft pick. Beal could be the one of the steals of this draft, Beal is a pass rush specialist who would have been a starter at a smaller school. He had a great combine, with the ability to move quickly, tackle in space as well as cover. He has extremely long arms and ideal height at 6'4. He is athletic enough to play with his hand in the dirt or as a stand up player. He needs to refine his technique as he plays too tall sometimes and his arsenal of pass rush moves is under developed. Even so, he can be a special teams player in year 1 but he has the upside to be a skilled pass rusher with a year or 2 of NFL coaching and development.

Performance: C-
Potential: B
Overall: C

Austin Bryant - Former Detroit Lion. Austin Bryant has talent but he has had to battle health issues constantly since being drafted. He will likely make the team as a special teams player and in pass rush packages. He is only 26 so he still has some upside as player but even if he makes the team he will likely only play 5-10 snaps a game on defense to spell the starters and on special teams.

Performance: C-
Potential: C-
Overall: C-

Spencer Waege - 2023 UDFA from NDSU. Waege is an interesting prospect. He dominated against the competition in college and has all the size and short area quickness you like in a defensive tackle. He needs to refine his technique as he won a lot just by being stronger than the linemen he faced. I think he could be a darkhorse to make the back end of the roster as I think he'll be snatched up by a team thinner at defensive line if goes to the practice squad.

Performance: D+
Potential: C+
Overall: C-

Marlon Davidson - Former 2020 2nd round pick. Davidson had a catastrophic knee injury and was released last year. He is a developmental prospect who could he a on the practice squad as a reserve,

Performance: F
Potential: C-
Overall: D+

Taco Charlton - Former 1st round draft pick with ithe Cowboys in 2017. Injuries have hampered his career. He has bounced around the league since 2020 and landed here this offseason. He already is injured so he will likely be stashed away on injured reserve this season then re-assessed next offseason.

Performance - D+
Potential - C-
Overall: D+

Kerry Hyder Jr. - Veteran defensive tackle that is closer to the end of his career than the beginning. Kerry Hyder Jr had an impressive 8.5 sack season in 2020 with most of the team plagued by injuries. I think he is past his prime but he is a consumate professional who can be a mentor to the younger defensive linemen during camp and perhaps lead the rear in a defensive line rotation.

Performance: D+
Potertial D+
Overall: D+

Breeland Speaks - Former 2nd round pick with Kansas City. Speaks has never been able to carve a career for himself in the NFL. He will likely be a practice squad player.

Performance: D
Potential: D
Oversll: D-

T.Y McGill - Joining the 49ers practice squad last season. McGill is a journeyman who has been on the backend of a lot of teams rosters. I doubt he will make the 53 man roster at least at the end of the preseason. But he can be a reserve player on the practice squad.

Performance: D-
Potential: D
Oversll: D-

Unit: Analysis: The defensive line is the heart and soul of this defense and will continue to be with Kris Kocurek and Steve Wilks working together. My only concern may be the depth on the back end, there are a lot of young or unproven players there, yes it was nice to add someone like Taco Charlton but he is already out for the season. We should have probably added another veteran pass rusher and there were quite a few this offseason that could have been had for cheap. It is clear that Javon Kinlaw is going to need to stay healthy as his snaps are going to increase considerably and he at worst is going to be an important rotation player this is the same with Drake Jackson who is entering his second year, but expected to take a leap this season. If healthy this is among the best defensive lines in the NFL and will be a dominant force in the short and long term but if a key player goes down some of these guys are going to be thrown into the deep end sooner than later.
