That Toys R Us book in the Sunday paper was everything
I remember one Monday morning, I brought that booklet to school, way back in kindergarten.

I still remember how me and one of my friends was looking at the booklet at the end of the school day while we was waiting for our buses to be called.

add comic book stores to that.

there was a huge toys r us in my neighborhood in queens when i was growing up that was so fun to go to.
we would dumptser dive occasionally and find toys and shyt people returned or had been damaged.

:blessed:
Peak early 90’s childhood for us was going to the mom and pop movie rental store in town that had a separate comic book shop inside :wow:

I remember going there with friend one day and his recently divorced dad got us Aliens, Contra 3 and a bunch of Gen 13 Image comics :russ:

The best thing about TRU was the sheer variety. You couldn’t beat it. Today you go into Target and look at the transformers, they will have Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and if you are lucky Star Scream. TRU would have 20 characters for you to choose from.

Today when toy shopping you almost have to know what you are looking for before you start because options are limited and Amazon is full of cheap Chinese junk. You could just waltz into TRU and find something cool on a whim.

Ironically that is also what did them in because companies like Mattel would try and force them to buy poor selling toys to get access to the toys people really wanted and TRU leadership were some pussies and didn’t push back on it. So TRU was saddled with mandates to buy shyt people didn’t want and minimum orders and they couldn’t sustain it when companies like Amazon showed up without that burden.

Kaybee had a smell of toys. I can’t describe it but it had a certain smell to it.

Toys R Us I remember getting the paper ticket of the video game you wanted and then having to go pay for it and pick it up at a separate counter.
