You don't necessarily have to watch the first two seasons of The Wire to enjoy season 3....I know this for a fact, cuz I know people who've done it lol

So sure, you can enjoy the season, but you're unquestionably missing out on things that would enhance your enjoyment. With this show, for example, you can't fully appreciate the Sully/Dushane dynamic without seeing the first two seasons. And the Dris betrayal. And the Sully/Jason relationship don't hit the same either

I’m trying to tell dude but he on his Meek stuck in his ways shyt. He’s not even trying to be rational. Like breh, there are key elements to the series that you won’t understand or appreciate if you don’t watch the first two seasons. That Dris scene hits 100x harder when you think about all they’ve went through.

don’t lie please...

of course watching the previous mini-series will give him a “full appreciation” fwiw and yes folks should watch it cuz it’s good television...I disagreed w/ the one dude who made it seem like the current series is rendered “unwatchable” w/o seeing the previous seasons...2 wildly different statements

This - people NEED to watch the first 2 seasons in their entirety in order for the show to have the same impact for the plot line not to mention the character arc.

It’s only 4 episodes per season. Lazy. That’s like reading the last 4 chapters of a book and trying to make it make sense.

lol don’t do that but re: the show I disagree...the way this season of top boy was set up (it was even refreshed and presented as season one and not three lol) a new viewer can easily watch it w/o feeling lost...yes there are some subtle things they will miss out on but nowhere near enough to be distracted from watching the season...it’s disingenuous to try and paint this as the equivalent of jumping into a random season of another series that traditionally airs on a yearly basis

there’s a 6 year gap between S2 and this new season...the writers can’t assume that everyone is going to go back and watch the first 2 mini-series so it has to be written in a way to still capture a new audience but of course there are some tidbits for old audience members that tie into the previous mini-series that new audiences can watch but don’t necessarily have to in order to enjoy this new season

they are not going to bring the series back to life 6 years later and dub it S1 but make it contingent on viewers needing to watch a previous 8 hours of television in order to “get it”...would it help a little? absolutely ....but is it necessary viewing? not @ all
I disagree, my friend. The key words are depth and character development. If you’re missing those elements- then you’re just getting the cliff’s notes edition of this show in its entirety. You can understand it, but you will not fully comprehend the season without the foundation . The main reason Top Boy was brought back is based off the first 2 seasons

lol...I’m not doing this a 3rd time

and for the record if ppl have time to watch the first 2 seasons I absolutely recommend it...but ppl who want to jump in this season right away will not be affected as much as y’all want to believe by missing out on the mini-series imo

I watched the first episode and a half before realizing it was the third season.

I was enjoying it but had the :leostare:because the show really wasn't explaining who these guys were, like it assumed that we knew who these characters were. Made sense when I realized it was the 3rd season.

Like Dushane telling Dris he was gaining weight made me laugh, but not knowing that Dris was skinny the first two seasons, you don't really get it.

Dushane being in the club, having dude on some :gladbron:shyt, I took it as Dushane being a big deal back home, but didn't know how and was :patrice:because the show didn't really explain why.

it does if you keep watching...as nicole said they’ll give you a “cliff notes” version of it...don’t know what ep you’re on but you’ll be able to figure out why he was looked upon as a big deal in the club...truth be told there are enough clues in the first ep for the viewer to figure it out w/o having their hand held...but yes you will miss out on little inside references/allusions such as the comment about dris’ weight
