But they have “Power” doing numbers. That show is hot garbage.
I went back and binged from the first season.it does if you keep watching...as nicole said they’ll give you a “cliff notes” version of it...don’t know what ep you’re on but you’ll be able to figure out why he was looked upon as a big deal in the club...truth be told there are enough clues in the first ep for the viewer to figure it out w/o having their hand held...but yes you will miss out on little inside references/allusions such as the comment about dris’ weight
Yeah that was a set up from jump. The eye doctor was acting real nervous. And they knew he would be driving by himself. The eye doctor was in on the whole schemeI think jermaine set up scarface to get killed...he was actn reckless
U gota think he went to the doctor could gave him some shyt to fukk his vision up even more thats why it was blurry n he got wet up
I mean, you don't need to do anything but stay black and die. You could start watching any show from any season and still enjoy if it is a quality show. But you're unquestionably missing key elements that would've enhanced your enjoyment. Top Boy is fairly unique in that the first season happens, then four years after that the second season happens and then 6 years after that the latest season happens. Time jumps like that dictate character growth and if you haven't watched the first two seasons you've quite factually missed out on a major element to the show.
I went back and binged from the first season.
It's not about having your hand held, it's about jumping into the middle of a story as opposed to starting from the first page.
It's not just little inside references or allusions you're missing.
When Dushane's brother says that his girl left him and how he's gotten 5 skin grafts, you'd have no way of knowing what that's about.
How do you know how Jason and Sully got cool if you hadn't watched season 2?
You don't even know who the fukk Gem is if you didn't watch the first two seasons. He just pops up.
Disagree to be honest. I watched the first two seasons when they aired years ago. Didn't really remember anything about what happened but I think the writers of this season did a good job of referencing the past so that new watchers wouldn't be confused.
E.g. why Bashy was trying to kill Sully,
Never suggested that one would be lost if they didn't watch the first two seasons. I said simply not being lost would true of many well written serialized dramas (I gave the example of starting at season 3 of the Wire as I know people who've done this).
The point I was making is that you're missing a significant piece of the show by not seeing that character development over 10 years. They created layers to those characters (from Sully kidnapping his own mother, to him beating up Jason's stepfather or whoever that was, to Dushane kidnapping a kid to his relationship with his mother and Ra'nell) that you don't understand. It's one thing to know Sully and Dushane had a fallen out, but seeing how that came to be is very different than just being told they had one. That scene from early this season where Sully tells Dushane nah he can't fukk with him hits on another level when you've seen what got them to that point.
Y'all acting like skipping the first two seasons is like jumping into Narcos Mexico without having seen Narcos Colombia when in reality it's like skipping seasons (or episodes) of any quality serialized drama.
There is a Season 4 upcoming. Netflix brought it back with a 2 series run. No official drop date yet.
Top Boy season 4 - release date, cast, plot and more
Agree with what the other guy said. The writing was so good that you don't need to go back to the previous seasons. To use your example of Gem I don't remember the character at all but it was pretty clear that he & Sully had a close bond & it didn't diminish the emotion of seeing him burn to death.
Not saying the other seasons don't have merit but this season stands up on its own & in reality is a soft reboot.
P.S. All I remember from the previous two seasons is a kid being thrown off a balcony I think. What happened to him?
This has had so much worldwide critical acclaim there's no way Netflix wouldn't make a Season 4. People who never even heard of Top Boy previously outside the UK got hooked. I liked the first two, but even I was surprised at how improved this season was.
