i disagree....in this day and age where people like to know things, there is nothing wrong with them announcing plans of a larger universe....you just gotta plan for it......if feige announced they were gonna do a universe before iron man, and followed the same plan they've done, i highly doubt much wouldve changed with how it was received......the issue here seems to be universal didnt plan the universe out...you dont announce a dark universe revolving around your monsters, and launch that with an action movie about the mummy....you make a horror movie about the mummy....and even then, while the mummy is a known monster, you gotta come with your heavy hitters first: dracula, frankenstin, or wolfman...seriously, they following this movie up with 'frankenstin's bride'...they havent even introduced frank yet, but you gonna introduce his bride? no, just no....
to use marvel for comparison again: i know people like to act like iron man, hulk, thor, & capt were some low level, unknown characters before the movies, but that wasnt true....out of the characters marvel had left with access to, they were the heavy hitters....hulk, thor, and capt are 3 of their 5 most popular characters (spidey and xmen being the other 2)....and iron man is probably #6...i mean, he had a cartoon before the xmen.....anyway, marvel took those and started the uni, then they brought in other characters....if they did it like universal doing, they wouldve started the universe with ant-man, and followed it up with bucky, which wouldve just been a 'no, just no' thing to do....
