I have 250k in my 401k I've saved thru two decades of sacrifice and commitment to principles. My wife "might" have 10-15k in hers.

Nah, she pays all the Cell phone, utilities, and her car note, I'm not completely crazy. But I got in a mode when I didn't care what she did as long as her part of the bills got paid.
Then she changed jobs and had to rollover her 401k and she told me she had like 12k in it all excited, and I just couldn't believe it fam.

But we never really discussed it specifically before that, I don't look at her pay checks, she's an adult, I stupidly assumed she'd been significantly contributing towards her retirement as well.
But nope.


I've been saving the way I have and I also have a pension, that I've vested in too. So long story short, just have the conversation with your significant other if you're planning to be together long term, don't assume, because some folks are horrible at planning for their future, when they have the option to spend it now.
