There’s something to this as well. We like to pretend these arguments are “objective” which is total bullshyt. It’s based on a lot of things and like you said, age and generation are big factors. Age and generation will always dictate our opinions.

That's one of the primary reasons why people abhor remakes of movies they grew up watching.

They could make a remake of Training Day which copies everything about the original and even has higher production values.

But if a person grew up watching the original Training Day and grew up watching Denzel they are not going to be fair to the remake even if it is a technically better made movie.

While someone who grows up watching the remake will of course have a different opinion.

I can argue T2 because I saw it when I was 4 and had shyt else till I was a teen and it stunk. But I hold Winter Soldier/Infinity War at that level of it's on tv I gotta watch at least a few minutes of it.

I was'nt of age for Predator in the theaters (used to watch it on channel 11 back in the day though) but I saw T2 opening weekend with my parents at Sunrise Theaters out on Long Island

There are only a few MCU films that slap as much as T2: Winter Soldier, Civil War, IF and Endgame

Maybe among just casual folks that aren't really into movies like that. But anyone with even a basic knowledge of filmmaking is going to spot a difference between T2 and any given MCU movie.

This would just be an uneducated take by them.

Like, sure, visual effects are better in 2022. But a lot of the special effects in T2 actually look better than a lot of the effects in some MCU flicks. Some of the CGI stuff has no weight to it. Some of the green screen shots are very obvious. The colors are often muted and drab. The digitizing nano-tech masks that appear and disappear often look sloppy. The colors don't pop as much. The action scenes and choreography are often more generic in these MCU flicks, and there's less intensity behind the action and fight scenes. Hell, you've even got guns firing in the MCU movies where they just have a little rubber gun and they use CGI for the muzzle flash, instead of actually using a gun that fires blanks. It looks super cheesy at time, and super fake.

Computer generated effects have improved from 1991 to now, but there are still lots of areas where the production value of T2 is better than a lot of the MCU flicks.

Just look at the climax of Aliens, aint no fukking movie made in the past 30 years matching the pure creativity and intensity of that final act. Visually it shyts on every marvel movie ever made.

I’m not saying I agree. I’m saying it’s important to understand where someone is coming from and that yes a lot of this shyt is subjective. So you’re right it’s not objective as people want it to be lol.

Do I disagree with this idea that any marvel flick is on the level of T2 or Predator? In terms of action, yes. Although I think in terms of character, there’s an argument you can make with solid points. At least for predator. But even if I don’t agree with the sentiment, I understand why someone a lot younger me might feel that way.

I got a niece who calls the hip hop I listen to, and the hip hop a lot of this board listens to, “old rap” and she turns her nose up at it. I school her on it but she’d rather listen to Polo G or any other young cat than anything I throw at her because that shyt is speaking to her and for her generation. It’s the same thing with movies. I bet a bunch of cats here up in arms about this topic would turn their nose if I asked them to watch a Chaplin or buster keaton silent movie. Or a Clark cable flick from the 30s or 40s. Context is fukking everything

Predator is one of my favorites. It's record is impeccable. It's not to be fukked with. Terminator 2 is universally beloved but I think The Terminator is better. Still tho, they both great. Iont know if there's any MCU movies that surpass Predator. There's a few that are on par but Predator and T2 are rated R action movies. It's not the same sport compared to MCU PG-13 summer blockbusters.
