I’m not saying I agree. I’m saying it’s important to understand where someone is coming from and that yes a lot of this shyt is subjective. So you’re right it’s not objective as people want it to be lol.
Do I disagree with this idea that any marvel flick is on the level of T2 or Predator? In terms of action, yes. Although I think in terms of character, there’s an argument you can make with solid points. At least for predator. But even if I don’t agree with the sentiment, I understand why someone a lot younger me might feel that way.
I got a niece who calls the hip hop I listen to, and the hip hop a lot of this board listens to, “old rap” and she turns her nose up at it. I school her on it but she’d rather listen to Polo G or any other young cat than anything I throw at her because that shyt is speaking to her and for her generation. It’s the same thing with movies. I bet a bunch of cats here up in arms about this topic would turn their nose if I asked them to watch a Chaplin or buster keaton silent movie. Or a Clark cable flick from the 30s or 40s. Context is fukking everything
They ain't fukkin with the ingenuity of Jim Cameron. I remember watching a documentary or some DVD extra about the making of Aliens. There was a problem with filming a certain scene and Cameron came up with the idea to shoot the face hugger jumping at the camera (I think) in reverse. He had some tech practice it and this dude was doing it all halfheartedly cuz he couldn't get a grip on the prop. Jim Cameron was looking at him like He's asking the guy, "can you grip that"? He was like, "Go put some gloves on and do it right."i believe you can point to effort and complexity.. For rap nobody can tell me it's evolved past the 90s because the rhyme schemes aren't as complex or thought out and the production is very basic sh-t made by a computer that any normal person could do. (that's most mainstream rap vs. today's mainstream rap on the whole... not everyone).
Some may not agree with the way i'm defining this but it'd be hard for anyone to argue against me. Same with a James Cameron action sequence vs. computer generated. Nobody can argue that the computer generated scene is more realistic than something that's actually real...
Not saying someone would argue one is better. But it’s possible for someone to prefer this shyt over that. And that’s the context shyt I’m talking about. Not everything is about being right or wrong. Some shyt just is. I can get into a real nerdy discussion about rap and hit the same points you did about it evolving and how that evolution stopped in 99 or 2000. But that doesn’t mean the shyt from that time will appeal to someone born in 2008 or 2010. And that’s the part often left out of these discussions.i believe you can point to effort and complexity.. Predator didn't come and go when it was released. It had the 2nd biggest opening weekend of the year (behind Beverly Hills Cop 2) and made around $100 million which was a major accomplishment back in the day.I was old enough to see both in theaters. T2 was a huge summer blockbuster everyone couldn't wait to see and it delivered. Predator was just a run of the mill action movie that came and went it was not revered at the time as anything special.

Predator made $12 million opening weekend, $59 million in the U.S. and $98 worldwide. Compare that to T2 which did $31 million opening weekend, $205 U.S. and $520 worldwide.
T2 made more money but the movie theater business in 1987 wasn't the same as in 1991; Predator's gross in 1987 was enough for it to make the top 10 in highest grossing movies while in 1991 it would've barely been enough to crack the top 20 highest grossing films.Predator made $12 million opening weekend, $59 million in the U.S. and $98 worldwide. Also the release model for those two films were entirely different. Predator was a surprise hit while T2 was a summer blockbuster sequel that opened on 4th of July weekend in twice as many theaters as Predator did on a random weekend in early June.
Terminator 2 is a classic in its genre. That isn't up for debate at all.lol.
if terminator 2 is your definition of a film classic, then yea i'm sure MCU is right up there
