9th Wonder dropped God's Stepson as a remix to God's Son. It started the narrative that Nas picks wack beats. Once 9th remixed the album, there were people who wanted Nas to ditch Salaam Remi and have 9th Wonder helm his albums.

9th Wonder says he remixed the qlbum because this was the type of production he wanted to hear Nas rhyming over.

Some years later, fans and even 9th himself still wonder why 9th hasn't got the "Nas call".

9th Wonder removing the existence of the majority of the old IWWG/Jamla roster from his platforms.
:picard:

Who did he remove? I know he took all of Remo's stuff down after they were beefing. Remo's single was produced by Nottz and then right before it was supposed to drop on Jamla, Rapsody dropped a loosie on Tidal with the exact same beat from Nottz. Remo was really pissed off and made some wild social media posts and videos going at 9th and Jamla, and then got all his albums promptly removed. Not only that, but even songs where he was just featured on other Jamla projects got removed.

Who else is gone from streaming now? Halo? Act Proof? Tom Hardy?

I guess I could just look but I wanna gossip :heh:

Being around 9th at that time, it's crazy, because none of us really realized how insulting the framing of that remix album was. I was critical of 9th in the new Little Brother album thread, but I truly believe he made that remix album with pure intentions and wasn't trying to sneak diss Nas. Little Brother hadn't dropped and album and he hadn't worked with Jay yet.

I think he was just on some "I made the kind of beats I want to hear Nas over" shyt. But you're right. It did really set the narrative that Nas doesn't pick dope beats. I never heard the argument before God's Son, and I don't even think I disliked the beats on God's Son until I started hearing they weren't dope. I liked Get Down, Made You Look, Book of Rhymes, Revolutionary Warfare, Mastermind, Last Alive, and Heaven. Dance, I Can, and Thugz Mansion were kind of cheesy but whatever.

I remember saying to 9th that "Even the not so dope beats on God's Son at least stay out of the way to let Nas do his thing" and 9th literally said to me "what the hell does that even mean?" :mjtf:

I still stand by what I said. :hubie:

The Roc-A-Fella split and Dame Dash starting Dame Dash Music Group which included Beanie, Joe Budden, Nicole Wray, Rell, etc... had a mixtape and everything.
Not only that, but Dame wanted to do an easy coast version of The Chronic for Kanye's debut album, and have Kanye rapping not so much on there, with Cam/Dipset, Beans/State Prop, and Jay doing most of the rhyming.
"Ghetto Techno" being a leaked track. The narrative now is that this is a song that was on BP3. Truthfully, Timbaland played this song around the time BP3 was released teasing it as a song for Shock Value 2 (Timbaland's own album that dropped a few months after BP3). "Ghetto Techno" never made that album either and it remains a leaked song that isn't even HQ.

The original Blueprint 3. It is forgotten that a Timbaland produced "Ain't I" leaked in early 2008 with Clue yelling BP3 all over it. Shortly thereafter, a HQ version of the song leaked and Timbaland offered to produce the whole album. Jay's response was that "whoever gives him 10 dope songs does the album". Months later, "Swagger Like Us" leaks as T.I. song featuring Jay Z, Wayne, and Kanye. Well, that song was originally a BP3 song. We got "History", "BK We Go Hard" featuring Santigold, and "Jockin Jay Z", but all those songs flopped and Jay redid the album.
Just Blaze also did the original version of Reminder on Blueprint 3, and there was a Hello Young Lady/Song Cry 2 on there that got cut and has never been released.

3) Hell Hath No Fury vs. Lord Willin. When "Grindin" dropped, it shook up the world. Nothing on HHNF had that kind of impact.

.
Nothing on No Fury had the type of impact as a single as Grinding. And maybe not even the same Cot Damn. And even What Happened To That Boy felt like a bigger Clipse song than anything on No Fury, and it wasn't even a Clipse song.

But as an album you think it's better than Lord Willin, right? If you don;t, then I don't think it's that crazy of a take, but I've always thought Lord Willin had the bigger hits, but No Fury was the more cohesive album. And on No Fury their voices sounded more distinct, as Push came into his own on there. I thought Malice really stood out as the better emcee on Lord Willin, but Push stepped up big time on No Fury.

BTW Push used Biggie's exact flow on this joint and nobody ever talked about it or realized it.

Didn't scroll down to see this when I made my post seconds ago.

50 basically said Jay not putting in and properly promoting the second Freeway album is why he withdrew from it.
I should give Freeway's 2nd album another listen.

The only ones I listen to are Philadelphia Freeway and Stimulus Package, but I think both are really slept on and true gems.

Yeah, all of Remo’s stuff is gone and unless you’ve got only zips/mixtape links, you can’t find Tom Hardy’s Jamla stuff anywhere except for features. Halo and Act Proof are still part of the label so their stuff is still available though.

I thought that both were more lyrical on Lord Willin and the production was better. "Virginia" and "I'm Not You" IMO added a greater depth to their coke content and then they even switched it up a bit with "Ma, I Don't Love Her" and ""When's The Last Time". The song with JD was the only one that didn't fit.
