All I listen to is old nikkas :manny:

Kendrick really the only new generation rapper that pay any attention to. Sometimes some J Cole...sometimes a few of them Griselda cats.

That's it. Y'all can keep this new shyt.
And even technically, these dudes ain’t even new generation anymore, they’re considered old nikkas now. Anyone from that blog rap era pretty much.

I've outgrown that aspect of it. I listen to Christian Hip Hop and rappers rooted in soul, social activism, self-improvement, etc.

I also listen to fly, money getting, motivational music like Curren$y and Payroll Giovanni.
Payroll and the rest of DBC>>>>>>> the overhyped white boy.

My homie was just telling me this when we were talking about the Durk shyt.

The 2020’s really suck for hip hop shyt is funny seeing the same posters that have been trashing everything new for the last 10 years talking about “bu bu but you just gotta find what you like” and then dropping some :russell: milquetoast album by a legacy act

Lupe ended it for me. Drogas Wave was the culmination of so many styles, storytelling, wordplay that nothing has come close to it since.

I'll still check out Earl and Big Sean, but for the most part I'm done with rap.

Where I shouldn't be
Been outgrown it. Only listen to Jazz, broken beat (check out Kaidi Tatham, Alphamist or DJ Raphael on YouTube) and 90's RnB now.
it was more than just realising the negative effects the commercialisation of the genre had on us & our perception then and now but actually how programming negative vocal music can be whereas Jazz allows your own imagination to paint the tones and interpretation of what you're hearing.
Sadly modern youth culture's aim is to ignore the obvious and embrace the new, even when harmful to psyche.

idk what wonky cities yall live in but the best jazz radio station in my city plays a lot of hip hop based jazz songs too (WCLK in ATL)
like i said earlier it's goofy to think a genre has one specific sound or content. that goes for all genres

Maaaannn fukk outta here with some of this shyt I'm reading in here... "Oh I'm such a mature adult, distinguished gentleman now. I realized hip hop is so childish. I'm listening to Brazilian jazz and Italian disco nowadays while sipping Merlot."
thank you.

this weekend I listened to Elucid's new album, a Milton Nascimento album from the 70s, Big Hit's Black & Whites from this year, some 90s detroit techno, the new Kelly Lee Owens album and "Chapter 2: World Domination". i'm fukkin wit hip-hop for life

there's a time and place for every genre of music
