That’s the thing. These guys aren’t greats. I just don’t see the greatness out of many these backs you guys keep bringing up.

I’m not saying he was Walter Payton just that he had 3 great years to start his career but never made substantial money

I just don’t think these running backs are as good as they were in the past.

I’m not impressed by a lot of these guys. I feel they are losing money because they’re just not as good.

We had people impressed by straight line McFadden with no moves.

The position is falling off

RBs are still the most sought players on fantasy football though :troll:

But like everyone has said, passing is priority now devaluing RBs. If you're a HS player and you're playing RB, you should switch positions if have NFL potential.

Nah. You should get your fundamentals down as a RB and also learn how to play in the slot.

A lot of these backs today are just plain ass.

was reading article.

The history of running backs on second contracts is bleak and something we’ve covered before. As of October 2022, 17 running backs signed second contracts since 2016 worth at least 4% of the cap at the year of signing. Only two of them produced more yards per game after signing that contract than before, and only four produced similar value to their precontract production for the teams that signed them.

Yeah you could and teams would love that but contract wise you're still not gonna get the money like WRs who play in the slot. James White was as good as any slot receiver when he went out for passes and no team ever offered him a big contract.

He wasn’t a good runner in the backfield

Did any team pick Zeke up? They just throw RBs out like yesterdays trash
Zeke Kareem Hunt and Dalvin Cook are still unsigned. Hunt deserves a chance somewhere to be a starter while Cook gained almost 1200 yards last year. Zeke may not be what he was but he's still got 800-1000 yard potential and still is a great goal line option. All only like 27/28 and it's a good chance at least one of them will never carry the ball for an NFL franchise again.

NFL owners finessed the players into accepting the rookie-scale contracts. While rookie scale freed up money for veterans, it also put downward pressure on their negotiating leverage since top drafted rookies are a much cheaper alternative. Before the rookie scale, rookies signing big contracts helped raise the floor for everyone. Adrian Peterson's rookie deal in '07 as the #7 pick was 5 yrs/$40.5M ($17M guaranteed). As a percentage of the current NFL salary cap, that contract is equivalent to $83.2M today.
