No one in their right mind thinks Herbert is anywhere close to Mahomes

What @Blessings is trying to tell you is that Chiefs model of winning is not replicable. Mahomes is one of a kind. And even with him this offense had its struggles.

Now, is a WR more replaceable than a QB just because of scarcity? Yeah.

If you want to look at a position crash aside from RB look at the safety market. Ever since teams started playing two high a lot, you either get an elite talent like Hamilton or you just pay peanuts for safeties because theres oversupply and not enough demand. A lot of vets can play the two high look.

All facts
The closest would be Lamar, and Allen(this season without Diggs).

Everyone else who's a legit SB contender will have a high-priced WR (Lamb, Chase)

Correct, no one in their right mind thinks that.

However these teams are willing to sell a player on the caliber of herbert to a fanbase so they can allocate resources elsewhere so they can follow whatever blueprint they want to follow.

We're a few experiments away from the bubble bursting, in my opinion. Teams would rather do a burrow and chase than bring in a chase from somewhere else if they are able. We've seen the veteran/elite WR and 1st contract QB combo flop a few times already and if it continues I don't think that's a good look for the market, that's all I'm saying.

I'm not arguing that they will be in as bad shape as RBs, but I don't think it'll be SWEET no more. For example, I don't think we'll be seeing guys like Adams going to teams like the Raiders anymore for top dollar. They'll put those dollars somewhere else and look to draft an Adams instead since he didn't make much of an impact for their team.

Niners will also be contenders but they also will be paying Deebo ( at least this year) and likely Aiyuk too

Had Goff won an SB prior to Amon Ra getting his new contract it would've been another example

I think that at least for few more years there won't be such a crash. I think nowadays it's not enough to sell a QB. Because if you get a QB no weapons fans and media will start eating the FO alive. Its important for the FO to at least make an effort "see we tried". Especially since the league is a passing league and has been for awhile now.

Ironically with Herbert, Harbs and Roman will be running the ball a ton. So in their case it makes sense. Chargers are honestly in a shytty cap situation, it was weird Harbs took that job out of all... but I guess he's got ties to San Diego.
