The just “stay in college and make NIL money bro” argument is also stupid because the dudes who could make a mill or more in college we’re gonna first round picks anyway and first round backs make bank.

Look at Saquon, he’s made almost 40 million dollars in 4 seasons in the nfl. That’s more than 99% of players ever get

Hard to be sympathetic for athletes making millions complaining about not making as many millions as they would like.

The game is evolving and RB just isn’t a valued position anymore, especially if the the RB isn’t a receiving threat.

It’s not fair, but life in general isn’t fair. Getting a guaranteed 10 million dollars is better than sitting out and getting nothing.
Generally speaking yeah running backs aren’t as valuable. But Saquon is extremely valuable to the Giants. Seeing Daniel Jones getting $40M per when he’s extremely dependent on Saquon it makes sense for him to take a stand.

I said it before and ill say it again, RB's should only be able to sign a 2 year rookie contract, so if they're elite they will get paid big for their prime. Most are on the downside by the time they are FA

still won;t work. he got 2 "good years" he's not proven. You can just draft anothr and give him a shytty deal. RBs will just have even shorter careers. unless this nikka running for 40 yrds every time he touch the ball, these nikkas ain't getting paid again

I don't think RBs are as fundamentally sound anymore either.

I don't see "special" as often as I did in the past.

The union would never go to position specific rookie contracts for players.

You don’t think Micah, Chase, and Burrow wouldn’t want the same shyt? :mjlol:

Kansas City Chiefs proved you don't need an elite RB to win SB's so these other GM's are using similar formula building team paying defensive players and QB when he's eligible for big pay day.

Yeah when you think about a guy like Pacheco and that KC team last year, what is crazy is the 4th string RB on that SB team was Ronald Jones III who in the previous year was the back up to Fornette who beat him out for the job. Now Jones who is only 25 is on his 3rd team in three years now with the Cowboys but there is talk that he may not even make the final 53 which could put him essentially out of the league. Life comes at you fast playing that positon.

Point is the RB position is treated like a lease and not an investment for better or worse. My son committed to a school as a RB primarily but I don't feel that position is best for his future so he's switching full time to safety going forward.
Damn I'd rather play baseball at that point.

You don't need a great running back until the play-offs tbh when clock control gets critical.

Play-offs you need every advantage you can get and your offense needs to play any style of game you need to at the time, plus the additional red zone threat.

RB need load management the most. If I were a team I'd favor a top-talent RB, give them touches through the season to keep their rhythm (not rely on them heavy), keep them healthy for the play-offs where you unleash them in cold weather.

Defenders were wincing at the thought of tackling Pacheco on KC for example, who had fresh legs and no wear and tear as a rookie.
Dude only having 180 touches through the entire season, but nearly 40 in 3 play-off games and many were critical downs to push that line and move the chains.

Sure a top RB hasn't won a Super Bowl in quite awhile, but Cooper Kupp is the only top WR who's won a SB in a long time as well. Otherwise it's been basically Mahomes and Brady stellar play.

KC really does get it:

Pacheco is currently injured btw

This is why you don't give RB's top contracts. Below is the list of the Top 15 Rushers in the 2017 season. Notice how many of them still played let alone contributed 5 seasons later in 2022.

10 out of the 15 players on the list didn't play in 2022. Some of those players were 22 or 23 that year. How are you going to pay a Back a 5 year 70 Million deal when you can't guarantee he will be in the league in 5 years?

Would you be happy paying Todd Gurley, Leveon Bell, Kareem Hunt, or CJ Anderson big long term deals?

It's even uglier if you compare the 2017 list to 2012.
