Of course the ATL
In the immediate aftermath of the 2017 trade deadline, word broke that the Atlanta Hawks reportedly offered “aggressive” trade packages for both Chicago Bulls swingman Jimmy Butler and Indiana Pacers forward Paul George. For the most part, that was seen as more of a peripheral nugget in the swarm of trade talks surrounding both All-Stars but, on Thursday, an interesting addendum came to light.

Brian Windhorst of ESPN brings word that the package put forth for Paul George was, indeed, quite aggressive and specifics are below.

Several teams made trade offers for George in February, including the Atlanta Hawks, who offered four first-round picks in exchange for him.

In terms of useful information for the future, this isn’t exactly groundbreaking, simply because George’s asking price would almost have to be lower with only one year left on his current contract. Still, the notion that the Hawks offered four first-round picks in exchange for his services does speak to something in terms of mindset for Atlanta.

It should be noted that the Hawks do own two first-round picks acquired through trades and both are protected. Those selections come from the Minnesota Timberwolves (lottery protected as early as 2018) and Cleveland Cavaliers (top-10 protected as early as 2019) but, even if both were included, the package would have to include at least two of Atlanta’s own picks.

What we don’t know is how heavily (if at all) protected those picks were in the proposed offer or how close the Hawks actually came to getting something done. Still, it does shine a light on the fact that Atlanta is at least thinking in terms of adding star power and putting together elaborate trade proposals in support of that idea.

The Hawks are at a bit of a crossroads during the 2017 offseason and things could go in a number of directions. Just three months ago, though, one of those possibilities was apparently a mortgaging of the future farm in an attempt to land Paul George.

:dwillhuh:

Can we get a real FO this offseason? Please :noah:

That trade could have had us looking like the Nets
Meh...none of those picks are lottery picks...and even though it was 4 picks we would only be losing 2 1st round picks of our own.

Brooklyn gave up their own picks for 5 years. 1st two came to us...next 3 to the celtics.

Can we get PG or Butler and keep Trill and Hardaway?
As of now I think we only have like 6 players on the roster, so there isn't a good enough package to offer for either guy.

I think we should just wait out lebrons prime and for the next two years rebuild. Add to the young core of dennis, tim, and taurean. Adding George just to push cleveland to 5 or 6 is a waste of time.

Maybe if we was getting Durant but not for no lazy ass Paul. As usual this off season is critical..we need baze gone asap. Milsap..I have a feeling he'll stay but if he stays he HAVE to make a move in FA. I personally like what I'm hearing about that 18 draft. Imagine a young star next to Dennis and prince

I am worried about :mjcry:

Attendance if we do bottom out :mjcry: I know the city tired of always being decent to good only to shyt the bed. We have along way from the unspeakable 13 win season..getting cracked on in drumline:mjcry: but thats what we need. Imagine Dennis and Fultz or jackson. Man we need some talent and heart for the future.

Outside of the Grizzlies, there isn't a team that needs to rebuild more than the Hawks. It's been like ten years since the team has picked in the top ten. That's unheard of in the NBA.

I just don't know how long the organization can keep up with this idea that "competing" is the right way to go. It almost makes me wonder if there is anybody within the organization that has championship aspirations. Championships don't happen when a team purposely treads water for a decade. It doesn't even matter who the new GM will be if Ressler wants to keep the status quo.

Ressler has said repeatedly that he wants to create a championship team. But that's easier said than done. A lot has been made about resigning Sap (which I think we'll do), but rounding out the rest of this roster is really what I'm more concerned about

-Decision on WOAT. Bud basically benched him when he came back healthy. Like @Sly Cookin said you can't pay $70M's to a backup who's inconsistent, undersized and turnover prone

-Decision on THJR. He's probably gonna get a deal like WOAT and if he plays like he did this past season he deserves it. But that's still alotta money to invest considering Wop, WOAT & Dennis all got big deal last yr.

-Decision on Wop.Either he or Bud need to figure it out or move on. Wop did alotta good things while he was here but Bud didn't trust him enough to play him in the playoffs. Gotta find a way to involve him in the offense consistently

This roster is going to look dramatically different considering we have so many FAs...Millsap decision aside there is a lot the next GM needs to make decisions on with regards to how this roster will look next season

Every owner or ownership group says they want to win a championship. I just question his commitment to actually doing that. If he's really about championships, he has to know that this team needs to draft lottery talent at some point. I'm worried he's going to bring in a GM who will keep this team in mediocrity.

Well apparently they want a player gm because they want whoever comes in to have some clout with dwight. They want somebody to get him in check if they can't move him. Apparently when he got ejected in Boston, Malik rose was the only one who had the balls to berate dwight after that game.

Also, the front office wants bazemore gone because they don't want to pay somebody that much to come off the bench.
I am hearing that they want both gone and can do it with the deals they have on the table. I am just not sure any deal for Bazemore is a win for us.

Might have to take on a bad contract or two to get rid of him, which I'm fine with. Maybe some expiring contracts from a team desperate to unload some bad deals. I'm hoping that your source is right and a deal for WOAT is on the table
