I have to give JJ props on keeping his productions secret. Must have some real goons on his team.

Curious on how this will play out. Whatever happened to old girl?. Did that guy and his girl really die?.

It's not a direct sequel. It's in the same universe so think of it as a side story or maybe even an anthology. He said it's not a direct sequel so a lot of cats in here are going to get their hopes up and be disappointed even though he's already said what it is and what it isn't

I love the whole "out of the blue" nature of this. But from what I'm reading this doesn't quite sound like it's gonna be a sequel. It's actually a bit odd. I'm intrigued nonetheless. I liked the first movie but in some ways it really disappointed me and it always left a sour taste in my mouth. I'm hoping this new movie can help make me appreciate the first movie more.

i think they took a black list script, started production and thought... wait a second, we could easily turn this into a Cloverfield movie. And that's what they did. This happens often. Someone will write an action spec and the studio will make someone else do a shytty pass and just add John McClane to it or something. Boom, new Die Hard.

It looks like they brought on the Whiplash dude to re-write the original script. They probably started work on this unsuspecting John Goodman/Mary Elizabeth Winstead movie no one really cared too much about in the grand scheme, and filmed the Cloverfield stuff over the course of production under everyone's nose, b/c they had the shroud of Star Wars at Bad Robot.

if that's the case, that's fukkin genius.
