It's actually a black list script from a few years back. It wasn't originally envisioned as a Cloverfield script, the meet of the story revolves around her after a car crash, not knowing what the stranger's intentions are for her. A second man shows up and things get much more tense. So the whole time she doesn't know if she's being messed with and being kept prisoner to become a sex slave or if there really is an apocalypse going on outside.

It was well written, but nothing amazing - and definitely didn't tie into cloverfield. They added the wife character, I'll bet that the "oh my god" scene still involves a pig who has been mutated by whatever's in the air to essentially be turned inside out - but there's enough going on here that's different that it could have a more substantial tie to Cloverfield.

The movie is named 10 Cloverfield Lane and is described as a "blood" relative and not direct sequel so them dealing with the fallout of part 1 and not following the direct aftermath of New York doesn't seem that far-fetched.
