They had to set up for a sequel so I'm not mad at the ending

It would have been a lot cleaner if they just went from Michelle seeing the gas coming towards her -----------> barely putting the mask on before inhaling it ------------> making a stealthy escape from the ship -------------> hearing the radio and going to Houston to tie up the arc about her always running away

I'm interested in seeing how they'll approach the sequel if there is one :ehh:

I like the pre molotov stuff more than a lot of the original script ending

In the original script, Michelle escapes the shelter and is chased through the farmhouse by Howard, who still wants to “protect” her. She blinds him with bathroom cleaner, he tells her about his tragic life (dead wife, missing daughter, treacherous Nate, etc.), and then she shoots him in the kneecap and runs away. He ends the movie alive, entreating Michelle to “be careful.” Later, after traveling down empty roads and finding no one around to help her, she crests a hill and sees the Chicago skyline, smoldering and destroyed. No explanation is given. We don’t even know what she will do next, only that she now knows that Howard, for all his oddity, was correct. The final line in the script is, “She slowly pulls down the mask on the hazmat suit before taking a breath.”
That would have been gay as fukk compared to the current ending lmao

2.75 out of 5, seems like they was making fun of red state america, don't know if that is the way you start a franchise

Noticing how the main people giving the movie lower scores are the ones that didn't get the memo about this not being a sequel

its not a very good movie, if it wasn't for the cloverfield stuff, i wouldn't have seen it, i did not come to the theater expecting a lot of cloverfield stuff, Im grading this movie on what I saw, I didn't like the john Goodman's charater, I didn't like them making fun of red state america, i thought that that was a cheap and easy pop

I don't know how anyone could look at Goodman's performance, literally dragging two other amazingly mediocre actors up to his level on such a small set piece and say the movie wasn't good. I legit can't get that. I wish people would just say that they didn't like it. I didn't like Shutter Island but I'm not gonna say it was a bad movie. That's just lazy.

I don't get the red state America stuff you're saying either. That sounds like a massive and disingenuous comparison to draw since you can apply to every filmed interaction ever. "They're making fun of liberals" "They're cashing in on isolationism" "another movie on race, Oscar bait here we go" "let me guess, another unsatisfied woman in a loveless marriage" mad cheap breh. I don't think that's exactly what you're trying to say, but that's how it comes off.

Guy has a bunker. He was also a satellite tech in the Navy. That isn't red state. And the other guy? Kid running from his college opportunity is shared by all backgrounds and colors.

I'm hardly saying everyone should like this or that this is the best movie ever, but stuff like that just shows how easy it is to review with a slant that is in no way fair for the movie or others looking to check it.

i don't have a problem with his John Goodman acting skills, i didn't like the character he was portraying
