i don't fully agree with the thread starter but I get his point, I personally can't fully listen to any album made before 87 anymore, but ill take the best albums of the 80s over the best albums of the 00s and 10s any day.
Criminal Minded, Paid in Full, Strictly Business, He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper, Life Is... Too $hort, The Great Adventures of Slick Rick, Goin' Off, Straight Out the Jungle, Lyte as a Rock, Critical Beatdown, It Takes Two, 3 Feet High and Rising, The Cactus Album, Unfinished Business, All Hail the Queen, Done by the Forces of Nature, And the Winner Is..., Youngest In Charge alone makes the 80s :whew: status and they were all made within a 3 year range

TPC
Supreme Clientele
Illmatic
Cuban Linx
Liquid Swords
Infamous
sometimes Midnight Marauders (I always skip "Sucka nikka" - never liked that song)
Live.Love.ASAP (I have to skip a couple wack tracks tho)
Prose Combat (I might skip one track)

then I have stuff that's a lil lower tier that is still mostly great but I only listen to once in a while. And I'll probably skip a couple tracks.

Fantastic Vol 2
Foreign Exchange - Connected
So you can only listen to 5 rap albums in full? :dwillhuh:

so you're not really a hip hop fan

I'm a lover of all music, hiphop just doesn't age well. Lyrical all the old stuff is simplistic, and now the style of music has changed the old stuff seems like a whole other world, while other genres don't change nearly as much. It's good and bad thing.

Consistently, without feeling the need to skip? yeah

You have to understand though: I've been listening to a song or two off Supreme Clientele almost every day since 2006. For the last 5 years or so, I've been driving around with that playing. That shyt has STUPID replay value.

There are great hip hop albums like Doggystyle that have songs I really love (e.g. Gin and Juice, Pump Pump, Murder Was the Case, Tha Shiznit), but I don't think I could sit through the entire thing over and over again without wanting to skip songs. or even changing the CD because I got bored of the vibe after hearing the best it had to offer.

I listen to a lot of genres too and they age just the same as rap ( which btw shouldn't be seen as negative )

As far as lyrics go most new rappers are pretty damn simplistic from a lyrical stand point (especially the ones in the mainstream). Kane, kool g rap, krs one, and rakim would rap circles around some of these new cats.
