How can I find a good Black therapist in my area? Reason I ask is I'm trying to grapple with feelings about the demise of my relationship and how it ended. Basically my ex got violent with me and that's one of the last memories of the relationship I had. It stained a lot of the good in the relationship obviously.

It's just fukking with me because I've had an ex attack me before and I'm wondering if it's me or a type of woman I go after.
churches are a decent place to start looking cause some church groups hold group or single counselling for people that live in the area

you can also try counselling service agencies in your area (thats how I started)

if not, I always advise online or apps that are available- Best Free Online Therapy in 2022 - Online Therapy

Lots of therapists and agnecies also offer sliding scale prices and discounts to help you afford as well. My best friend died last year and somehow I was qualified for free therapy. Best thing about it was I mainly went to help me thru that situation and ended up working on some of the bigger issues I had never tackled

Truly hope this helps tho 💙

I think since my most recent break up I've felt a lot of guilt for how things ended. I hurt her. I will say neither of us cheated or were abusive. Ultimately we were incompatible and my biggest sin was being with her too long when I was trying to "change" her. I'm the type to take complete ownership of all my successes but also my failures.

With that being said I've been doing a lot of work to forgive myself, take accountability for the things I did so I can ultimately move forward and become a better person and partner.

I’ve been fortunate to find another brother who’s a licensed professional just a few years older than me from the same town so he understands.

I just went to my first therapy session this week for the first time since before Veterans Day. I think I made a break through the other day. It was uncomfortable but I’ve been really intentional about it because I want my own family someday and I want to be healed (or as close to it since nothings perfect) so I can be the best father possible for my future kids. I hope to be more consistent with appointments in 2023.
