It was an oft repeated but misguided narrative just because those chips were also used in mobile devices/laptops. But that didn’t make them weak and outdated. They were literally the new technology the year they came out.

CPUS aren't only made for gaming. Showing me a $1000 CPU with 24 cores made for engineers and comparing it a CPU like the 3700X is a bad comparison. Developers aren't going to ever target a spec like that when hardly anyone will actually own it hence why consoles are the target platform at times because the install base is there. They're not on a frigging $1500 CPU.

Same held true when X1 and PS4 released.

They were mid level CPUs with a concentration on low power consumption and heat.

Witcher 3 and Doom are on switch. Two games that look phenomenal and take higher end hardware to its knees can still be ported down to switch which is barely a step above 360.
