Agreed

His discography in general is ridiculous. It's under appreciated despite how famous he is. He should have Taylor swift levels of fame, although tbf his lyrics are not always family friendly and he doesn't like to show his face that much
According to Guinness, he is the most popular artist in the world.

Weeknd has always been a very heavy handed artist when it comes to his video treatments, they are all very on the nose. Not a lot of subtlety. Very kind of 2010/2020 era easter egg type of shyt. Some of his music has benefited from that ambition, and some hasn't. You can look at the videos for almost all his tracks and see those kinds of examples.

He always gets blown up, or set on fire, jumps off a bridge. I think he is like a known movie nerd, so that explains some of that. But, script writing and plot treatment is different than just visuals. I like this album, but just like a movie, it's heavy handed, a lot of it is inaccessible to the listener, he keeps you outside the drama that he insists is happening, and the stakes often feel kind of forced. You lost your voice?! OMG. but it's also very creative, very ambitious. Sonically, a masterpiece. Perfect to play all the way through on a drive, or a party setting.

I know he really wanted to get into TV and movies and acting, one of my homies worked with him in LA.

I liked The Idol for what it was, but you can see his fingerprints all over it, and they aren't always good. Acting aside.

Also, I am not saying I ever believed the hype about Weeknd being some homeless drifter, dark persona, but in those years of 2011, he did very little press, he kind of crafted that narrative and image, and his music had all the drug and late night themes, which he kind of originated in R&B.

So, I didn't have the clearest idea about who he was, or what he was like, besides some interviews, where he came off like a very thoughtful and nerdy kid.

but when I saw him at the Forum in LA in 2015, I was like 15 rows back, and he came out like "HEY GUYS whats up" in this little falsettto voice, I was like oh he's just a artistic nerdy kid lol

I know (I know) When they think I don't, I know (I know)I know (I know)

And they try to fukkin' kill me, spreadin' misinformation :what:

Tryna paint me a villain :dahell:

Guess I did it to myself, man, this business life pimping :youngsabo:

Who can tell me the difference?

Dealt with scarier situations, I had nowhere to live in :mjcry:

High school dropout, chillin' with academics

Now I can finish a sentence , Now I'm articulate, baby, :banderas:

And I annunciate, baby

And I eviscerate my enemies and piss on they grave, yeah :pacspit:
And I swear I'm gon' do it, I know :wow:

My god

YouTube music

Wow.

It sounds SO MUCH BETTER on YouTube music. Worth a premium subscription for this album alone.

It’s MUCH louder at max volume, and WAY crisper. Real high definition audio

Do yourself a favor and listen to this on YouTube music in the whip if you have a good audio set up.

WOW

huge difference

The Abyss with Lana gave me chills. :wow:
