Thats top secret information
L was dead, those artists werent, people started giving L that legend propup since 99-00, thats like saying nobody put pun in their top 5 till joe dropped lean back or something, soon as these guys died those props began

and even witrh the talk online there was still a healthy amount of big L love on the net idk what yur really saying and i fukk wit ya but i dont get it...cause eminem had NOTHING to do with big Ls popularity. literally not a thing

the free with jay, deadly combo mixes, ebonics, etc were the things that resonated with people POST death. devils son got the same UG love some of those guys you posted about did

:what:

Dude Wtf are u talking about....those names I just mentioned were the big names online circa 2001 - 2002. Big L was not in that mix. Big Ls name is gonna pop up here and there if hip hop is in the convo......yes but his name was not in the mix like u talking right now....Immortal Tech was the big hype from Harlem on the internet around that time...Not Big L.

It ain't about what Napster did or didn't have, the point is that the notion that Eminem brought L's name to the forefront or is even the causation for him being overrated "goat" status, is erroneous. And you specifically said online so being anecdotes about being from Harlem isn't really germane to the threads premise.

The same types of underground, mixtape "backpack nerds" that ended up latching on to him in 03 were the same ones mentioning him along with Pun before then.

Answer the question I asked u directly....Not the response I gave to someone else...

Here it is again.

Like I said, I been fukking with Messageboards since 2000.... And that whole "Murs/Deltron3030/aesop rock/Immortal Tech/El-p/Illogic/Eydea/Mr Lif" movement was what was hyped up on the internet circa 2001 - 2002. I dare you to say that those werent the names hyped up on the internet around that time and then I double dare u to say that Big L was in that same mix.

son...

BIG L WAS DEAD

do we talk about big pun on here everyday or do we talk about westside gun and kendrick lamar?

your connecting dots that mean nothing in the end game, what does underground internet forums 3 years after death and eminem mentions 4 years after his death mean ANYTHING?

the big picture went gold breh, he wasnt some UG rapper anymore... he was all in the source, had all a listers on his shyt, had the ditc album out with his picture on it.

you wanted big l threads all day. if anything the years yur talking about is WHEN L became that piopular through all the filesharing sites which is HOW we got the freestyle with jay in the first place and the COTC stuff. THIS WAS HUGE on those forums so your remembering shyt very wrong as if noone talked about big L in 2001/2

like i said, white kids who listened to rock before were calling big L the goat in 2000...

comparing big l to these dudes cause they have more threads cause they actually dropping music... makes no sense bro sorry

a couple cacs on hiphopinfinity talked about eyedea... he sold maybe 25k albums, L sold 500,000... i dont get how you think L was a nobody until 03...

Now u just making up shyt.

I never said any of that nonsense u just mentioned about Eyedea being more popular then Big L....everything I stated has been pretty clear and u seem to be going left for no reason.

And u obviously werent paying attention to the atmosphere online concerning hip hop messageboards in the early 2000's...I can tell because u just making up shyt now to cover up the fact that u werent around. Then u have the nerve to accuse me of trolling because u wanna change the original topic...Nope, not gonna happen.

Maybe u should dip....peace nikka.

i been on sohh since 2001, wutangworld, 5 elements, hiphopinfinity, ughh since 2000...

im not the one who thinks a random big l mention after dude sold half a million albums made him a legend, thats you breh. you obviously WERENT an L fan cause then you would have known talking with your pals that L was in peoples top 10s back then REGULARLY way before GRODT dropped.if anything he was regularly in peoples top 10s then compared to now barely ever...

If you really wanna put it tpo the test, make a poll where people heard of big L and when was he popular online.. idk how to prove it to ya bro but your memory is SHOT

its an insane connection of dots on the level of pizzagate and the kennedy assassination

I remember those days like it was yesterday.. I was in NY for college at the time, and Big L was definitely known before 2003. I knew him from his MVP song and video back in 95, and it was especially easy to remember because it shared the same sample as BIggies One More Chance...

When he died in 99, his popularity exploded online, especially with Napster and Kazza.

I remember having all of his underground stuff that year, and I copped the Big Picture that next year.

TBH I never heard of Em bigging him like that. But he definitely had a fan base before then.

Eh....im from Denver and me and my homies were bumping L before he died. So no. Dude was known. Eminem isn't responsible for everything yall.

Thats cool....But your answer has absolutly nothing to do with the thread title or the overall topic. But thanx for playing...we have some lovely parting gifts in the back.

OK that sounds nice....But i'm talking about the current hype that Big L has. The hype that rides Ls cock while ignoring Lord Finesse. Are you gonna dare say that the current hype is equal to the hype prior to 2003?

there is that certain myth that surrounds Big L that has always bugged me a little.
you'd think he was fukkin Percee P status with limited material the way people references the same few things over and over.

L like a street ball legend that never really made but his highlight reel is

:banderas:

Unfortunately he never got a chance to fully live up to his potential. Pun at least dropped a classic before he passed.

crazy that i've seen so many threads over the years debating/comparing their debut albums and it still surprises me how many people pick Lifestylez over Capital Punishment. i fukk with L but its not even a competition. Capital Punishment blows it away. shyt, off the intro and Beware alone.

Did u really just use Napster and Kazaa as a reference?

:mjlol:

Napster and Kazaa had everything, from lost songs to dj mixes...That doesn't count

:russ:

I'm talking about the overall adoration of Big L.....Not songs available on filesharing sites.

Yes I used them...you know why?

BECAUSE THE THREAD TITLE SPECIFICALLY STATES THE INTERNET :snoop:

The way I remember it, The Big L hype online didnt start until after the Em shout out on GRODT'

He blew up on the Internet prior to Eminem shouting him out because in large part thanks to FILE SHARING SITES :snoop:

You can't be this fukking dense.
