Thank you. And much respect.
And it's nice to find someone on here with respect in general. Most of these dudes hate women and it's sad. Hurt people hurt people I guess.
And I will definitely check out those tracks and those albums.
As for the topic of women in hip hop, I'm usually conflicted. I grew up loving the art form but the older I get the less I can stand the misogynist material from both men and women. It's like most females in hip hop just go along with it to be accepted and it sucks. And I have enjoyed some really misogynistic tracks both past and present but I don't love or feel them anymore like I used to. And the lack of female emcees that aren't rapping like super sexed up whores or super masculine chicks is really depressing. I never liked the Foxy Browns or Lil Kims for the most part because I never found it "empowering" to rap about how well they could suck a dikk. I don't really like hearing dudes rap about how many chicks they "toss" either.
But the genre is definitely missing the female MCs that could rap and were still being women. Early Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Da Brat (at times), Salt N Pepa, Lauryn Hill were all artist I grew up and saw that they could hold their own but be classy. Now all I can really respect is Rapsody. She speaks in a way I can connect to and I've experienced a lot of what she talks about.
Anyways, good talk lol. I will check out K-Rino. Peace brother.
No doubt, have a huge amount of respect for women, I don't see why anybody wouldn't, it's illogical and backwards to me. Genders can be different but still equal.
Yeah, the hateful shyt I see against women hear disgusts me, even certain dudes that have posted in this thread, condoning threats of rape against women and shyt or defending people that have disgracefully dissed black women and black people in general
.
Stay with it is my advice, the great Hip Hop is there, you just got to know about it, let's speak further and I can try give you some recommendations if you are interested. I see where you are coming from because if I wasn't aware of all the Hip Hop I am I would probably feel disenfranchised with a lot of the mainstream, but as I have such a broad range I'm still very happy, satisfied and still get excited about the music. From my perspective it's like there's been so much great Hip Hop, historically and presently, I'm not aware of ALL of it so there's always new things for me to discover. I have an unbelievably massive music collection because I just love Hip Hop so much I just wanna hear everything dope I can, the best Hip Hop can be really inspiring and therapeutic too. It can be very positive to one's life, just got to be able to filter what you take in and don't.
I feel you, some aren't necessarily the best example, especially in terms of conformity. Some MC's that come to mind to me are Queen Latifah, Lauryn Hill, Bahamadia, Roxanne Shante, Storm, Shay D but there are countless. I'll have to show you some more sometime, who represent well. I don't have an issue with women showing certain sides to them because that's real too but what I DO take issue with is that they aren't being allowed to show other sides, or having pressure to be a certain way if that's not them. I don't need to hear a woman express her sexuality for me to listen to them, as women are obviously more than just sexual, I can be interested in a female MC's skill, artistry, intellect, content, creativity, styles etc just like with men, likewise I don't mind sexual material too, but the problem to me is the systematic condition of the industry that tries to exploit women to try to make them conform due to perverted pathetic desperate men. Everyone should be allowed to be themselves, if you ARE a predominantly sexual female artist, ok... but I don't like how the industry tries to FORCE women to conform to this if they want to be successful. I have some goals that I will try to assist with in this area. Artists I've helped develop who are female I always let them be them. Had an interesting conversation with The Conscious Daughters back in the day too.
I get where you are coming from, I think there needs to be a balance, if women are multi dimensional which they are and individual then how can you talk about the "hoes" if you don't talk about the other side? You said a lot of real things, it's dope to hear.
That's exactly what I like from a female MC, just be yourself, don't have to be manly or conform, just be you whatever that may be.
Rapsody, name sounds familiar, will have to check out her work, you putting me on too lol.
