Fantasia did a really good job on the stage play years ago.....but there isn't any reason to remake this movie.
Thats the only reason...to sell a soundtrack. They get moulin rouge, we get this.

Remake have been a staple for decades
Lots of movies we grew up on were remakes or reimaginings
Scarface, the mummy, gone in 60 seconds, night of the living dead, heat, and little shop of horrors
Every remake definitely isn't as good as those, but a remake is always a safe choice versus a completely new idea
The outrage will guarantee people will be talking about it
A new movie would probably fly under the radar unfortunately
