Don't you dumb fukks know that directors/producers don't fund their own projects 99 percent of the time? If someone want's to make a movie they need investors. Kickstarter is just another way for people to micro invest. George Lucas is a fukking billionaire.. Do you think he paid for those Star War's flicks with his own money? shyt is so rare that when nikkas do it, its kinda sorta a big deal.


And for the record Spike Lee got into the game buy funding his own movies.

I'm not trying to be all in Spike's pockets like that but how come he is not able to fund his own movies at this stage in his career? Why is he relying solely on hollywood investors?? his movies don't generally have crazy special effects and computer animation. If its true that Tyler Perry funds his own movies... why can't Spike? Is he just not willing to risk the potential loss?? if that is the case I'm not investing in something Spike has no confidence in although I enjoy a majority of the movies he makes. its a shame......

man, if I were him, I wouldn't gamble my money on funding my movies. that's why you have producers and what not. however, I dont agree with him using kikstarter. that should be for up and coming folks who can't finance their own project. not for celebrities and cats who have been in the entertainment industry for 30+ years and could find a way to finance they film if necessary.

You guys don't read. Its not simply a donation to his film. You get different things at different donation levels in exchange for the support. If you want an autographed dvd copy of the film then pay the $50 level. no different than purchasing anything else online. Your just buying it in advance. Kats love to hate on spike.

There is nothing that says that Spike has to send you the dvd, they are just words on a website and not a guarantee. If he wanted he could take all the money and do nothing with it.

movie goes don't know what it takes for movies to get made in the first place. No one is pointing a gun to nikkas heads and forcing them to contribute. i never said anything about us missing our chance either. conditions are fluid, but as long as the moviecoing public thinks like you, the audience for all black movies will be limited just to black people, which means that budgets have to be tight, and the overall number of movies has to be lower, which in turn means fewer kinds of movies and more common denominator type flicks.

Like I said black people have spending power. It's nothing to sneeze at. Problem is if a black person tries to do anything other black people will be overcritical and non-supportive. At some point you stop looking at them and what they'll let you do and you start looking at us and what we can do for ourselves. Negros used to own BET and sold it to Viacom. Those black magazines like Ebony were black owned too before they were sold.

Black economic spending power is scattered and unfocused and it most def isn't unified behind black owned businesses and black ideals.
