Man, I don't even want to try and sell this piece of shyt but I need it out of my life. I was contemplating burning it for a minute but to do something like that is blasphemous in my opinion and my neck of the woods don't exactly got folk lookin' to read a Catch - 22 like that shyt. Trust me, I'm gonna gift this to someone whether they like it or not.

I kind of had the same thing with that Murakami book, 1Q84, and I went through all three volumes of that expecting it to finally become worth all the hoopla...probably the book I hated the most, ain't never reading him anymore:camby:

What about it that you didn't like? I'm reading the synopsis on Wikipedia and I'm interested. Might cop it for myself.:manny:

Yeah that's what "fooled" me, it's kind of magical realism, blending surrealism with reality which is my favorite genre (Garcia Marquez, Saramogo...)...but I was just bored as hell all the time. It's not badly written, it's just... bland. It' felt like one loooong description of what is happening, like a report or something, I wasn't touched at all by the poetry...I don't know, maybe I read it at a bad moment in my life. And honestly I think for what's happening it easily could've been a 150 page novel instead of three volumes...it feels like despite three volumes he's still staying at the surface of what's happening and spending a lot of time on descriptions and useless (for me) scenes, so some stuff I still didn't understand at the end. I could read 30-40 pages in a sitting and sometimes it felt like I hadn't read anything :yeshrug:

But I know it was a huge hit, maybe I wasn't in the right state of mind (or maybe the translation sucked) but really didn't like it.

Am reading the Killing of Reagan, Customer Centricity and Revelations. Heard a book promoted on DL Hugley that I want to read and can't remember the title. Something about the secrets or habits of powerful or successful people.

Do you mean the 7 habits of highly successful people?

Lately I read Americanah bu Chimanda Ngozi Adichie, I guess most of y'all know about it, great book

Also this book in french, "Petit pays" by Gaël Faye over his youth in Burundi and the situation when the genocide started in Rwanda...interesting, but not that great. He's got a lot of hype in France though, might end up being translated since he'll probably win a couple prizes this fall.

Does anyone no about any African Philosophy books? For example I have read some books on things like stoicsm which was written by Europeans hundreds of years ago. Is there a African equivalent?
