Brehs I put up a 'wrecking ball' bag in my basement (mainly for hooks and uppercuts), and shyt is just different. Real good for coming under and from the side but not so much for straight punching. Any advice here? Also how do I keep my elbow from flaring?

Never heard of them maybe @SkiHatDaGawd has.

Yeah definitely heard of them, nothing special about them IMO. The flawless way of knowing which glove to buy is trying them on. If you're just a beginner, you're rolling the dice, if you're experienced you can go to a spot that sells gloves or try on other boxer's gloves just to get a feel, if you and him have that type of relationship. I remember Zab's uncle Gus (shameless name drop to prove the wisdom behind what I'm saying) showing me a long time ago how certain gloves have "pop" and others don't, it depends on the puncher and how they punch. For example, for some reason Everlast doesn't give me that pop (but useable), however, Winning and Grant gives me tremendous comfortability and pop. @houston911

Breh you can definitley use them for straight punching, just do it. I like it because it's unusual shape forces you to punch differently (which is good for fighting) and forces you to work on angles and adjust trajectory. Create combos that involve straight punches, hooks and uppercuts, then ending it with ducking under the bag. Most people work on 3 punch combos, try 5 punch combos, 3 punches, duck under the bag come up on the other side and finish with 2 punches. You want stamina, do 3 rounds of that, you're not going to be able to finish 3 rounds at first but when you get tired, don't stop just do it slow until you build up. You can also use it for infighting. Lean on it and throw punches, it'll help you when you're tired and can't throw anymore.

Eliminate elbow flairs by SHADOW BOXING. Concentrate on your punches, just don't punch for the hell of it. Also square up next to a wall, inches from it, and practice punching along the wall, if you elbow hits the wall, then you're flaring. Don't let your elbow hit the wall.

:salute:

So I have it hanging where my eyes are just below the center of the bag, allowing me to hook towards the bottom meatier (no Tua) part of the bag, does that sound about right?

Thanks again breh! And you're right the wrecking ball is WAY more of a workout than a typically heavy bag.

@los

Any of yall use the ringside imf tech gloves?

They get reviewed well. How do they compare to the title gloves?

Ringside IMF Tech Sparring Boxing Gloves - Walmart.com

All leather

I own a pair, not my go to sparring gloves but they're alright. What I did not like was how bulky they were and I couldn't make a proper fist with them. Might be due to requiring more of a break in time but I didn't like them for that.

Use them for some pad work or bag work now.

Breh I think you should go to the stores (I assume they have heavy bags) with both pairs and let a few 1-2s go. :yeshrug: I started off w Everlast protex2 and had all types of wrist problems. Then I bought title platinums, and they're still in the rotation. What do the brehs at your gym recommend? @SkiHatDaGawd is right every glove affects everyone else differently.

@Yuzo any recommendations?

Currently using these:

Deluxe MiM-Foam Sparring Gloves - Lace-up

Has enough padding for me to go a little harder without causing too much issue

For velcro:

Small enough profile to sneak in punches and you can't rely on them being wide to easily shell up

I've also used Grant (12 oz), Grant Brothers (16 oz), Rival (bag gloves and sparring)

It all depends on a lot of things, I got large hands so some compact gloves are horrible for me unless they 18oz

Some are already broken in while some def require some break in time

I forgot is this for general training or sparring the gloves you are looking for?
