what's the differnce between brands with the 970?

I was about to buy an eVGA but then I saw MSI has a quieter fan and better components. are there any spec differences? I won't be overclocking.

Non reference cards are overclocked a bit and have different kinds of fans. Do your research, I'm sure there is a winner out there.

I have non reference asus 780tis. They had good cooling and a backplate. I liked em better than all the others. Although I wish I just stuck with reference, cuz I'm in sli, and the bottom GPU is always hotter thanks to those fans.

If you are ever thinking about going sli, get the reference ones (aka stock ones)

3gb is status now.

I caution against the 3gb versions. The 6gb version will be more future proof.

The 970 is probably the wisest buy though.

370? 970 you mean? Yeah, I would. I'd still wait for the 6 or 8gb versions though. I was about to pull the trigger and sell my cards to get 2 980s, but daze and 2gunsup made good points. They'll be much better cards in the future with more VRAM.

the 970 is definitely more powerful, and has more ram, than a 780
