Should I get both a SSD and HDD?
Should I get a SSD that fits on the M.2 or a one that's 2.5?
Thinking about Samsung 970 Evo 500 GB M.2 NVME SSD ($88): Samsung 970 Evo 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive and

What are your components?
Ryzen 7 2700x
Noctua NH-D15 cpu cooler
MSI RTX 2080 super trio
Corsair vengeance pro 32gb(2x16)DDR4 3200mhz
Asus prime x470 pro
1tb sata SSD - 2.5
1tb HDD
Corsair CX 650m - took this from my previous build. May upgrade later

I also got 3 noctua case fans that aren’t here yet 2 140mm that’ll serve as my intake and 1 120mm for the exhaust

One of each is usually the best bang for your buck, but I would get as big an SSD I could afford. Try to use the HDD strictly for large file storage, install everything possible to the SSD, and keep frequently used files there. That will keep the HDD from bottlenecking the system as much.

Okay...Samsung 1 TB SSD. It's a 2.5 ($149). Samsung 860 Evo 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive

The Samsung 1 TB M.2 is $168.99 Samsung 970 Evo 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive.

I have only had HDDs. Any noticable difference between the 2.5s and M.2? Is the difference enough to get the M.2?

Just answered the question before I posted. Thanks.

I think i'll combine the Samsung 1 TB M.2 Samsung 970 Evo 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive and the WD Black 500 GB ($39) Western Digital BLACK SERIES 500 GB 2.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

My build so far: System Builder

Still need to get a case, power supply and monitor.

honestly you could probably save $100+ if you get a board without WiFi and a replace the nvme with a 2.5 ssd, then put the extra hundred to get a 2070 super

I would go with a larger HDD unless you have externals, or are 100% sure you won't need the storage. It's a pain in the ads running short and adding after the fact. Not like they're expensive.

Thanks but I already bought all the other stuff except the drives. Money isn't really an object, I just don't want to go all out since I don't really game too much.

I think I'll do that and get a 1 TB. Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

I see AMD cards have a deal where you get RE3, Monster Hunter and 3 months Xbox game pass with the purchase of select AMD video cards. I wanted to test out the RX 5700 XT for two purposes:See how it performs in comparison to my current 1070 and also for testing to see if it is my GPU that is giving me the random black screens and distorted image/colors. I'll redeem the codes and then return the card since I'm not keeping it and want the newer Ampere or Navi 21 cards slated for this year.

Edit: :whoo: So far so good. I tested The Division 2 and I can keep the resolution at 100% of 4K and the game stayed at 60fps throughout the few minutes I've played whereas the 1070 had some dips below 60fps at 75% of 4K resolution. I'm anticipating the new cards since this is with the old stuff.

Modern Warfare 100fps average at 100% resolution with SMAA 1TX same settings at 3440x1440. Same settings on the 1070 would've been around 60fps. Pretty nice. I'll return this when I get my code. Microcenter didn't have any more codes but tech support said they'll email me when they get one for me.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
I completely missed this post...hahaha.

What settings and how is the performance?
Update. I just checked my performance for Modern Warfare again and it’s between 98 and 130 fps without RTX and between 65 and 85 with RTX On. This monitor is basically running games at a hair under 4K resolution so that’s basically the benchmark for the most part. Like 10% under 4K I believe.

In the market for some new tech and have been considering the following options:

Microsoft studio and a chromebook

Surface 7 and a Dell touchscreen monitor

Surface laptop 3 and a Dell touchscreen monitor

What's the best option here for anyone that has any of the setups?

Just ordered this monster

While the CPU is liquid cool the reviews says the RTX has sub par cooling system that you will probably have to replace. I wondered why it was so cheap.
Everything can pretty much be upgraded.

A solution to the GPU cooling is to not set it on the floor. Since the cool air comes from beneath and hot air exit the top. I will have no problem with that.
