Figured I should post a picture of my build. Originally my mobo was the Gigabyte Z270X Ultra Gaming, but it had some bent pins that shut down a couple RAM slots so I couldnt use dual channel and overall I was less than impressed with their Bios and overall software package. I didn't even bother with an RMA. I ordered the Asus ROG Strix Z270F Gaming as a replacement and installed it this morning. Pic below (sorry for the glare, it's a glass case.)

Build Config:
Corsair 570x
Corsair RMi1000 PSU
Asus ROG Strix Z270X
i7 7700K
Corsair Vengeance LPX 300 8GBx2
Asus GTX 1080 STRIX A8G x2
Samsung Evo 850 500GB
WD Blue 4TB
Corsair H80i v2
Noctua Fans x5
Nice specs. Just a little cable management and it would be all good :banderas:

Nice, breh

You're case looks about the same size as my case and has the front open. I wish I had that gpu cord hiding spot on my case, but no luck (I have a Phanteks Evolv RGB case). Still, you've given me an idea. I can put the cords in the back through the open slot and bring em back in. I might try that tomorrow. I'm cautiously optimistic

should i stick with my i7 4790k and 16gb of ddr3 @ 1866? or upgrade to latest gen :ehh:
Honestly, I'd probably just roll with the 4790k for a while. You can overclock that past 4.5 relatively safely. As long as you're just running one card you'll get great performance still. Plus, the new "enthusiast" (which I'm assuming you are, given you have a 4790K) CPU are terribly expensive. I'm gonna have to pay $1000 just for my CPU alone, just to get 40 lanes...:snoop: I might not upgrade this generation, cuz the next will be cheaper and who the fukk really needs 10 cores? Like really....

Edit: I forgot to talk about the RAM. Yeah you're good. There's only a very small difference with faster ram. I have faster ram in my latest pc, compared to my old one, but I can't really see any difference.

I would be careful about trying to "future proof" with an AMD CPU. It has a nice advantage over Intel CPUs that would take advantage of the extra cores, but for gaming and applications that benefit with faster individual cores Intel is still the king.
its a gamble but there is evidence that there might be perf bonus for more cores in the future. At least star citizen said so.....

i hope....:lupe:

, the leak suggests that Microsoft will bring in something called "Windows 10 Pro for Workstations" although it might actually be called "Windows Pro for Advanced PCs" which will help Microsoft move away from the stigma of Windows 10.

The OS will have a couple of different features:

  • Workstation mode enhanced performance - using the multi-core server CPUs to deliver better performance on demanding tasks.
  • Resilient file system storage - ReFS is Microsoft's improved file system that was introduced with Windows Server 2012. Support for this was introduced in Windows 8.1 and you can use it now, in Windows 10 if you like. There's a setup process which involves building a mirror set and formatting them with the new file system. This may be useful for anyone who has to work with a lot of data.
  • Faster file sharing - uses SMBDirect to move files quickly and with minimal overhead. Obviously useful in businesses where data is moving about quickly, and a problem with Windows currently.
  • Expanded hardware support - have 4 CPUs and 6TB of memory in one system.

It looks worse than it is. Those are the GPU power cables you see in the bottom right. It's just two cords, but they're thick and sadly there's no magical way to make them disappear.
you could tie them together to make them look less unruly. I really don't care about that kinda shyt, but I also don't have a window on my case

I'd argue it's shining. Price per performance is going to eat into Nvidia's pockets.

Vega FE is a $1000 dollar card that performs on par with a 1080 non Ti while drawing nearly 2x the power. When the RX version is out you'd be lucky to see it retail for under $500.
