Here's one video I recommend

I find it easier to look at things through a modern scope and then work back to roots and finally back around to present day with a deeper understanding. Read lefty magazines and sites(The Nation, Jacobin, Dissent, Alternet, The Intercept), study a little history(Europe-19th/20th centuries, national liberation movements, USSR), work on some contemporary books, then get back to Marx, Engels, Trotsky, Lenin, etc. Definetly invest in a reader to help with Kapital if you ever get there. Very challenging read. Marxist.org is a great resource for the entire left, not just communism.

Marx is remarkable precisely because much of his criticism of capitalism has come to pass. Alienation, concentration of capital, the decay of social fiber.

If anything, public ownership of the means of production makes vastly more sense than it did in 1850.

Sanders is gonna cut food stamps? Link? Sanders is the only candidate who has a record of not cutting food stamps.

Welfare panic is illogical, virtually every other developed nation has a more robust welfare state, their civilizations aren't collapsing.

socialism won't work in racially diverse societies where one group has a large majority. everyone likes to cite the homogeneous nordic countries as examples of socialistic things america should do. but white americans would rather go without than suffer the thought of some minority also benefiting from a social program. can't row in the same direction when the hate of the "other" is so strong.

Racism is a tool of the ruling class used to divide the working class. So, yes, there's no socialism without the fight against and the overcoming of racism. The "nation" is people, the product of the people's efforts is unequally spread. Taxation is a way to redistribute that total product. The state is an instrument of the people, ideally.

JFK wasn't good. I don't care what he thought about taxes(worth noting they were extremely higher then than now, we have the lowest tax rates in modern history rn). JFK did the bay of pigs, kinda like the Benghazi of his day imo.
