@LauderdaleBoss breh come in here and drop your thoughts on this fight and PPV overall

Since I'm not a fan of either guy, I didn't really look forward to this bout like that so I pretty much stayed silent about it. But, since the big homie asked, I'll drop my thoughts.

I thought the overall card was average, but the judging was horrible for the whole night tho. Too many nikkas got the benefit of the doubt too many times. Glad I didn't pay for this shyt. Never felt it was ppv quality, but a very good match up nonetheless.

I thought Kovalev should have won by 7 rds to 5 or 6 a piece with the KD being the difference maker (similar to Hatton/Collazo) I think at worst a draw, but I don't feel like Ward won. He did stay competitive and his rally was good to come back with, but I don't think he took over with it. Like compare his comeback to Hopkins in the 1st Pascal fight and it's night and day, plus Hopkins had 2 knockdowns against him. Ditto for Algieri against Ruslan. Now those are what I consider comeback rallies. This was like the diet version of that.

Neither guy impressed me that much and I felt Kovalev dominated his early rounds that he won more than Ward dominated the mid/late rounds he won. Overall the fight was an intense tit for tat chess match that needed someone to step up and really take over. Like nikkas were afraid to put it all on the line. Too many big fights end controversial because these cats ain't going all out.
I kept waiting for one of them to get their Peterson from the late rds of the Swift fight on and that shyt never happened. :snoop: Both fought too reserved and without the urgency to really make a statement. Ward back peddled too much and had too many dead gaps throughout the fight. Krusher moved like he was trying to get out of quicksand. Kovalevs hard jab that he landed all night, was the only thing that surprised and impressed me from the whole fight. Didn't like all the wrestling and clinching both did. I don't blame Krusher for implementing headlocks since Ward would just rush him with his forehead down and hands out for no reason. I think he even started the 3rd like that. :mjlol: It's like Ward tries to neutralize guys to a fault because he wouldn't try to take over, but his effort was more like someone trying to stop somebody from taking over. :mindblown: Ward would just lay back and circle for 30 to 45 secs and then land some quick counter combos and then fall back again. Like he barely came forward and when he did it was short lived offense or a clinch. I just cant fukk with all this minimalist boxing that is the new wave now. nikkas getting praised for backing up the majority of the fight and throwing 30 punches a round, while the other guy gets praised for looking at him do it while following him around throwing 36 punches his damn self. Ward's body work was decent tho, but I wouldn't put it up there with Jorge Barrios effort against Guzman or Roy's bodywork in the 1st Tarver fight.

I'll say this, I don't think it was a robbery, but I felt the other guy should have won. It was a close fight where everyone's scoring preference will determine the swing rounds.

A rematch should happen, but if these nikkas fight like this again, I prolly won't care about that fight either. :manny:

I have to respectfully disagree. I just can't recall Kov putting anything together after the 3rd or 4th round. I'm trying hard to remember but I can't. When Dre started going to the body it seemed to confuse Kov. Instead of tryna throw down, like throwing an overhand or coming with an uppercut, he kept throwing that jab out there and started missing. It seems to me that every journalist was just looking at the knock down and Dre head snapping back a few times from the jab and not paying attention to the body work and Kov throwing arm punches from about the 4th round on.

Neither guy's offense really stood out to me like that. :manny:

I don't think the knockdown was that big, but I don't think Ward''s comeback was that great either.

Thanks Pat.

I just rewatched the fight, and inbetween the 11 n 12th JDJ n Kov didn't exchange words, at all :heh:

I was actually at the fight. After the 1st round, you'll notice in the HBO telecast that Kovalev motioned for JDJ to speak to the Russian translator in the corner instead of him. So JDJ was having the Russian translator relay his instructions to Kovalev.

#ConsistencyCops, i have always said an active Ward was the best fighter outside of Floyd. So had Ward fought an average opponent he would have been #1 to me, this just makes it so others shouldnt argue as well.

I hope people dont drop Kov too much. He still deserves to be top 5 ish PFP to me.

When you fight the best you should maintain your spot.

Kovalev is also a straight animal and a lot of the typical Ward things he could do he had to do a modified version due to the size, jab and power of his opponent. Kudos to him and his team adjusting to body jabs and rib shots and moving to Kovalev's left to neutralize that right hand.

ward movement was poison to kovalev right hands. kovalev has to snake his way into range to steal you with his right hand and ward movement means he can never come into range to throw a right hand.

in a rematch ward has to try to stay way out and jab. kovalev never coming into range to throw a right hand probably does not beat ward in a jab contest.
